It's basically a one party system in this country now. Gore and GWB proved that when they banded together to keep Nader out of the debates for the 2000 election. About the only difference between the parties now is the Democrats pretend to act embarrassed when they're screwing the average citizen and the Republicans high five each other while they're doing it.

Voting for any individual and expecting them to change anything for the better is, at this point, the definition of insanity. The only thing that will ever effect change in this country is mass demonstrations, but we're all too mesmerized by our cell phones and social networks.

The comments on here are so asinine that it's actually laughable.. Maybe the old saying "college isn't for everyone" still rings true today.. That's what makes this country great though, you can stubbornly argue you opinions even when you know your factual information is skewed by your personal opinion, but it's your personal opinion so that's what somehow makes it true.. It's like Wall Street is still some invisible figure in this country...

Now that is an interesting perspective since I've repeatedly been told that PFT readers want only serious and thoughtful discussion with absolutely no smacktalk whatsoever and that PFT readers find any kind of personal bickering--or as you say--a "hit out of the park" extremely distasteful. Therefore, all such comments must be censored for the common good.

Thus they've blocked comments from me containing such provocative lines as "Sweetheart, can you read?" and "You can get off the planet anytime you like, pal." (I'm still waiting for a reasonable explanation as to why they allowed "Then get off the planet, dumbass." It seems odd that they'd find "pal" more provocative than "dumbass." But then I can't will myself to think with a censor's sensibilities.) It is interesting, however, that despite this conviction by the moderators, Mike continues to post on political topics that naturally incite bickering.

Personally, I believe people come to football blogs for both thoughtful discussion and entertaining smack talk. So I'm cool with whatever you post unless it crosses an extreme obscenity line. However, I do wish people would toss a little football in with their politics.

You're simply parroting an opposition line regarding Obama's policies. But that's beside the point.

Instead of vulgar and provocative comments about Obama or countering slams about Bush, we should be discussing how a strike might affect the economy and how the power of our highest office can be used to avert it.

Both Republican and Democratic administrations have intervened in labor issues in the past. This shouldn't be a partisan squabble.

I can’t believe how incredibly STUPID most of the posters on this site are…
-------------------------------------------------

Seriously? Unfortunately, anything posted about the President inspires Americans to behave like rabid dogs instead of respectful citizens. It shouldn't matter whether or not they support him or his policies. People should be able to discuss issues and our leaders in a civil way. But civilized discourse on matters of state has gone the way of black-and-white television.

Never fear, though. You have at least one moderator on PFT who holds firmly to a 19th-century sensibility, so I doubt you'll see this post. I've copied your use of "stupid," and that's not ladylike. He censors about 50 percent of my posts as inappropriate, including anything exhibiting a Southern dialect or sentences that begin with "baby," "sweetheart," or "darlin'." Apparently the female Southern dialect is considered confrontational to uber-young northern boys who aren't, a-hem, fully developed. I can't think of any other reason they'd be so easily threatened. Didn't you say your wife is a judge? Oh dear heavens, she surely wouldn't be allowed to post here unless the network provided the moderators pee pads for their chairs.

If this post shows up ... it means the night moderators got all the cojones in the network family ;)

Actually jobless claims are at a 3 year low. And NFL lockout would also increase the unemployed because lots of people, not just players, would be thrown out of work.
===============================

Jobless claim numbers only cover new applications for unemployment. It doesn't cover people who are already on unemployment, people whose benefits have run out, or people who have just given up looking and gone on welfare or taken poor paying, under the table jobs.

And of course, employment numbers are inflated by temporary workers working on "stimulus" projects, which do the exact opposite of stimulating the economy, who will be right back out on the streets when those projects end.

Seriously dude.

The “Obama Bashing” in this thread is quite amusing. As pointed out at the beginning of this thread, a lock-out by the owners could be devastating for our economy. I doubt the President gets involved, but if he did send in a few folks from his administration, it would be because he’s worried about the guy who owns the corner bar or sells the merchandise.

No NFL is not going to be the end of any big businesses, but it could really effect the smaller mom and pop enterprises around the stadiums.
===================

Do you really think there alot of "mom and pop enterprises" in the shadow of stadiums that generate their entire operating income from 8 Sundays a year?

And if this were true, which it isn't, would their business going down really be "devastating to the economy"?

I think a few people on here need to get a little perspective on the size of the American economy and the NFL's impact on it.

And, I'll ask again what I asked in my last post:

What exactly would the administration do about it?

It's not a willingness. Its a friendship.

De Maurice Smith worked for Obama's White House transition team and headed one of its departments. The two are friends.

Why he doesn't want to get involved is that most of the owners are Democrats and have, but may not contribute to his election campaign.

Just another layer to the fight between the cheats and the liars; the stinking rich and the filthy rich.

Settle down you ignoramuses and wait until the man removes himself from other pressing worries to deal with this before unleashing your ignorant critiques.

I know that many of the people who post here are republican or maybe just an Obama hater but, beyond the running, passing,takling and kicking, football is also BIG business. Football has a way of making us forget that because of the product on the field. We cannot forget that in order for that product to operate as it has for years, there are thousands of people making it happen that don't sit in a cushy box or wear a uniform. There are vendors whose living will also be affected by the decisions of these billionaires. No matter what you think about the POTUS, he has always been for the average guy/girl. I am also certain that if any of us could do something to push this process forward, we would do that and it would be merely so that we can WATCH the GAME! ITS BIGGER THAT THAT PEOPLE!!

For all those claiming that the NFL has a big economic impact I'd just point you to the argument that entertainment dollars are fungible.

That means if you don't spend money sitting in a bar on Sunday afternoon watching the NFL or purchasing DirecTV, you will spend the money in some other fashion. Maybe play an extra round of golf or go take a long weekend somewhere. They'll go somewhere and not into savings.

Will it be an economic impact, sure. Will it be recession level, no. Will other things appear to take up the slack...absolutely.

The country seemed to survive in prior strikes and it will do so here.
