Report: Mic’d up teammate caught Leinart ripping Cardinals, Whisenhunt

Memo to NFL players: Watch what you say to your teammates. They may be wearing hidden microphones.

That’s a lesson that Matt Leinart apparently learned the hard way, as he reportedly ripped the Cardinals and their coaching staff during a preseason game while talking to a teammate who, unbeknownst to Leinart, was wearing a microphone designed to capture the sounds of the game.

Dan Bickley of the Arizona Republic reports that the teammate (whom Bickley doesn’t name) asked Leinart about his future in Arizona, and that Leinart let loose on the organization and head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

It’s not clear exactly what Leinart said, and it doesn’t sound like it had anything to do with the Cardinals’ decision to release Leinart shortly thereafter -- it was Leinart’s shoddy play on the field, not his comments on the sideline, that led to the Cardinals sending him packing.

But the story could be a lesson for us all -- it’s probably not a good idea to badmouth your boss if you want to keep your job.
