Although the Seattle Seahawks say they want to retain quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, all indications are that Hasselbeck will test free agency, whenever free agency starts.

NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reported (via USA Today) that Hasselbeck turned down Seattle’s last offer, and the Seahawks are getting concerned about re-signing him. According to Lombardi, the two sides are not close on a contract.

ESPN’s John Clayton also described Hasselbeck and the Seahawks as far apart in contract talks.

Seahawks GM John Schneider, however, described the talks with Hasselbeck as positive.

“It’s going good,” Schneider said. “We’re having great dialogue. Matt is Mr. Seattle, and he has done a ton of great things for the city, on and off the field. We’ve had good dialogue.”

Just not good enough to get close to a contract getting signed.
