Former Raiders first-rounder charged with murder

Anthony Smith, who played defensive end for the Raiders from 1991 through 1997, faces murder charges in connection with the 2008 killing of a man in Southern California.

Smith, 43, was charged along with Charles Eric Honest and Dewann Wesley White in the murder of Maurilio Ponce.

He appeared in 98 games with 49 starts for the Los Angeles and Oakland Raiders. Smith notched double-digit sacks in each of his first three seasons, with a career high of 13 in 1992.

Smith was the eleventh overall pick in the 1990 draft.
