Newton and Fairley weigh in at Pro Day, stand on times

The Auburn Tigers’ Pro Day is in progress, and top-rated prospects Cam Newton and Nick Fairley have opted to stand on their Combine times. They’re only participating in on-field drills.

Newton and Fairley did weigh in Tuesday. Newton measured 6-foot-5 and 244 pounds, down five pounds from the Combine. Fairley is now carrying 297 pounds at just under 6-foot-4. The 2010 SEC Defensive Player of the Year is up six pounds from his weigh-in in Indianapolis.

Less heralded prospects such as Auburn middle linebacker Josh Bynes did run the forty. He was clocked at 4.82. Safety Zac Etheridge, another potential mid- to late-round pick, was timed as fast as 4.5-flat.

Newton and Fairley’s decision to keep their times from the Combine isn’t surprising. They both worked out very well in Indy, with Newton running an official forty of 4.59 and Fairley registering a 4.87.

We’ll have an update on Newton’s passing performance when it takes place later today.
