Traded to the Jets last year after catching a four-game suspension for his latest violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy, receiver Santonio Holmes plans to remain with the team despite being on track for free agency.
According to the New York Post, Holmes posted a video on Facebook in which he says he indicates an intention to return to the team.
Speaking from a room filled with his Steelers’ memorabilia, Holmes says, “Sorry Jets fans, that not enough Jets stuff is here, but trust me, as soon as I sign back with the Jets, everything will be taken care of.”
The Jets placed the highest possible restricted free agency tender on Holmes, who likely will be eligible for unrestricted free agency if/when the CBA is resolved.
And while Holmes seems to be willing to return, there’s a chance that another team will be willing to overpay for his services, which could suddenly make the Jets look less attractive. Despite his off-field issues, Holmes has become one of the best clutch receivers in the league.
