McShay “blown away” by Fairley’s workout

Nick Fairley

By most accounts, Auburn’s Cam Newton had a solid, but unspectacular Pro Day.

ESPN’s Todd McShay thought defensive tackle Nick Fairley, on the other hand, put on a show.   McShay said on Sportscenter he was “blown away” by Fairley’s work in position drills, especially his footwork.

“His burst out of every cut and change of direction was remarkable,” McShay wrote on ESPN.com, noting that a 297-pound player rarely looks so fluid and explosive.

There are still questions about Fairley’s focus that could push him down the draft board.  McShay’s co-hort Mel Kiper said he can’t see those concerns pushing Fairley any further than No. 8 overall, which sounds about right.

In this muddled draft, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Fairley go anywhere in the top eight because his talent is obvious.

Something tells me this dude is immensely overrated and will be a flop in the NFL.

McShay has -3 credibility with me.

Someone needs to find out what his mile time is cuz’ that tells you how hard he is working hard to get better. Work ethic is the most important yet most underrated trait for a young NFL player especially a DT.

God given athletism allowed him to push kids around at Auburn. Too bad he is not playing in the SEC next year. Were he is going everyone is an elite athlete. It’s his will to improve that is going to becide if he is worth a damn.

Oh snap Mcshay has spoken that means people should think twice about Fairley. Seriously though Fairley does have great footwork which was evident at the combine. Fairley’s great footwork and change of direction of skills would be a remarkable attribute to have if he played LB or DB but unfortunately for Fairley he plays neither. Fairley’s problem is his motor and conditioning, at his pro day he would get tired from the drills and start playing with bad technique more specifically his inability to stay low and bend in his hips. But seriously Mcshay sucks

He’s like a less talented Haynesworth.

The question is: Does Toad McTurd really know what he’s looking at?

Unfortunately McShay is clueless…ESPN is trying to make him a cheaper Kiper and thus make Kiper expendable and it isn’t working. If McShay is ESPN’s face of the draft they are in trouble

The guy could end up being Warren Sapp or Keith McCants. I’m not sure which.

I don’t know that I would give McShay’s evaluation much weight. Lots of draft experts and pundits I respect have labeled McShay as a front runner, saying he gets excited about players who turn in good combine performances but have have been busts in the pros.

What exactly do these Pro Days tell you, that Game tape hasn’t?

    The Dolphins are horrible.

I could not agree more with all the other posts here. The thing that really gets me is that you can’t even see the whole mock drafts that McWho, and Kiper do because ESPN is making you pay a monthly fee to be one of their “INSIDERS”. You can take your “INSIDERS” and shove them up Kiper’s and McWho WHOWHO’s. Mayock is killing it right now with how he can break down EACH AND EVERY player. His indepth look is better than you can hope for in the draft, and NFL Network better not let him go. Adam Schefter can’t hold a torch to Mayock when it comes to evaluating players. Thank you Mike Mayock. You have made the draft fun to watch.

Fairley better hope he’s drafted high. He’s going to need that extra draft slot money to pay for all the fines he’s going to get from the cheapshots he will inflict on oponnents.

Since Mcshay likes him..probably means Fairley will fall at least 1 round
