Saints assistant gets three years’ probation in real estate scam

travis-jones

Saints assistant defensive line coach Travis Jones, who pleaded guilty in June 2010 to federal conspiracy charges in relation to two fraudulent loan applications filed by Jones, received on Wednesday a sentence of three years’ probation and 100 hours of community service, according to sentencing documents obtained by PFT.

Although Jones made only $86,225 from the scheme, which required him to make false statements in loan applications in order to obtain money that was never repaid, he is required to fork over $1,148,678 in restitution, which represents the full amount of the loans paid out in his name.

Unless being an assistant defensive line coach pays a lot better in New Orleans than elsewhere, it won’t be easy for Jones to raise that money.

The Saints were tight-lipped after Jones pleaded guilty, eventually suspending him 30 days without pay. Now that the sentence has been imposed, Jones could be subject to punishment pursuant to the terms of the personal conduct policy.
