Nick Fairley does a deal with Nike

Though his football income in 2011 will depend on where he’s drafted and whether, you know, there’s football, former Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley has signed an endorsement deal with Nike, according to SportsBusiness Daily.

Fairley, regarded as one of the top defensive tackles in the draft, also has an autograph deal, and he’s in the running to be the cover athlete of EA’s new college football video game.

The dollar value isn’t known.  Former Tiger teammate Cam Newton reportedly has signed a seven-figure deal with Under Armour.

They were sick and tired of having to play for those low 6 figure salaries at Auburn.

Nick has always seen himself as a sleek, graceful, wideout trapped in the body of a fat, stupid, defensive tackle.

Geez, these two are set already and they haven’t even been drafted yet…

    Must be nice!!

Fairley is a tremendous talent, and I expect him to be a successful pro … but I still don’t understand why these companies pour all this money into rookies. Name recognition is the key to advertising success. Fairley should be an early draft pick, which means he could wind up playing for a losing team that doesn’t get much media exposure. Why pay a rookie DT on a losing team a fortune to hype your product? Just doesn’t make sense to me.
