Doty didn't make that credible a case that the league was hording money away from the players - this was basically a separate loan to the owners in case of a lockout. Doty used the term "collusion," but this is what needs to be known - if players work together to protect themselves, it's called a union and is treated as good, but if owners work together to protect themselves it's called collusion and treated as a crime. It makes zero sense.

I cant believe a player didnt stand up and tell him to shut his f'in mouth. And to stop acting like a tough guy before they came up there and made him prove how tough he is.

I can understand a Cowboys player not saying anything b/c there use to being dominated by him and everything having to do with that team being only about Jerry and his ego. But I dont see how the other players, who dont have to go back and play for him and deal with his meddling every day in every aspect of there jobs, just sat there and let him run his mouth and talk down to them like they were a bunch of children and he was the only adult in the room.

I wouldnt have been able to handle him talking to me like that if I was 1 of them. Especially after having to hear all the condescending remarks the owners have been making the last few months. And We've only heard a small portion of it I cant imagine whats been said to the players behind closed doors.

Its possible some player didnt cower and said something back to Jones and it just wasnt reported. I hope so b/c if not it makes it pretty obvious to me when push comes to shove the players are gonna fold like a cheap suit.

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm feeling a little outnumbered :) Have had discussions with many Dallas fans about Jones and know he's done some positive things for the team. Sometimes it seems he just doesn't know how to get out of his own way.

I absolutely agree that the owners are acting as a unit. And as much as I respect the Rooneys--I'm a Steelers fan--I've said I'll have to stand across the street from them on this one. But as with any voting block, you have diverse opinions. I do believe some owners would have taken a less-adversarial stance in pursuing these negotiations.

Since coming into the league, Jerry has wanted to make changes to some of the longtime revenue structures that have made it possible for smaller teams to thrive. I'm not saying he'd want any team to be unsuccessful. But I do think he's more concerned about his success and his brand than that of the NFL as a whole. I just fundamentally disagree with him on several issues, but of course I recognize that we couldn't have gotten to this point based on the actions of a single owner.

The league has illegally funnelled nothing to this point. The judge ruled that the money they would’ve gotten this year in the event of a lockout was in violation. If you have details on the league illegally funnelling money the last 2 years please share it. If not, please refrain from wild accusations.

------------------------------------------------
I don't need to share it ... you just did that for me. My understanding is that the owners set up this deal with the networks a couple of years ago. TV revenues are part of the joint revenue pie owners share with players. So it's difficult to see how they could take such a large chunk of that pie and hoard it to finance themselves through a lockout in which players would earn nothing. Apparently the judge felt the same way in ruling they couldn't. Perhaps I misspoke, but when the judge ruled what they were trying to do was wrong, I took that to mean illegal.

Even if Jerry Jones is playing hardball, I just hope the other owners take note of how devastating the MLB strike was so many years ago and how MLB is still unable to come close to the relevance and popularity they once had. If greed becomes so much that no one can afford to attend a game, then all will suffer together. I don't feel bad for either side but they should recognize it could all be replaced with some other sport. Who knows!?!

Look, for all of the people or shills out there who are undoubtedly on the players side in this mess, this story is a godsend. To me, who cares. You have 32 owners in this league, and a few of them are idiots....namely Jones, Snyder, Davis and Richardson. But having any one of them as the poster child for the owners is the equivalent of having Antonio Cromartie be the poster child for planned parenthood.

Jones has always been out for himself. And one poster above correctly identified how he feels...he hates revenue sharing, and if his methods were implemented, at least 9 or 10 teams would never be able to compete in his "free market" version of the league. And that's why THAT business model will never work. Jerry can own the Cowboys all he wants...but if he doesn't have competitive, viable teams lining up against his players every Sunday, the league as a whole suffers.

Are the owners greedy? Sure the are, just as much as the players. That being said, I still believe that they are doing what's right for the long-term health of the league. I've said it before and I'll say it again...you cannot continue to have the continued rate of growth in expenditures (i.e. player salaries) that we have seen and expect there not to be a breaking point. The NFL may have a hefty TV deal, but putting asses in the seats is a huge chunk of revenues for each team. And most people can't afford $150-200 a ticket, plus $8 beers and $5 hot dogs. What will it be in 10 years? $400-500 ticket prices and $12 beers?? Players might see this simple fact, they might not...but the reality is that none of them care, because their careers in the league are short-term. As long as they get paid for their time, they don't care. Period.

Many will feel the same way as you do. For me, I've been gradually becoming more frustrated with the league, which in many ways is a micro-example of the separation of wealth in America. I am by no means suffering myself, but the rich are obsessed with getting richer.

I don't really care who's fault it is. The league doesn't know how good it has it and now they are willing to take it away because the two sides can't play nice. They take the fans for granted and unless the fans take a stand, they have no reason not to.

xchrisegan says: Mar 15, 2011 7:39 PM

This is exactly the reason why people respect Robert Kraft and hate Jerry Jones. All throughout this process people like Kraft who run one of the better and more profitable franchises in the league has done nothing but try to bring both sides together. Its all fun and games until Jerry Jones has to start paying bills for the phallus in Dallas.

------------------------------------------------------

It's funny that it's just popular opinion to hate anything Cowboys. Jerry Jones has done more to make football as big as it is than anybody. He won three superbowls, no one gives him credit. He stands by the vikings and lobbies for them to gt a new stadium nobody cares. Nfl takes sole responsibility for seating and seating arrangement sometime in Jan. there's a fiasco in late Feb. at the Super Bowl...it's still Jerry's fault. Jerry bump's his fist's together, the players decertify...it's all Jerrys fault.....

Yet the owner of the team that won three super bowls CHEATING, is the more respected owner. See that's how I know it's all blind hate. Kraft and the Rooneys...REALLY!? Kraft, the owner of the cheating team and the Rooneys who's WR got caught with pot and get's kicked off the team, but their QB who has literally been charged twice with sexual misconduct and done other stupid things (like riding a motorcycle without a helmet) are the Well respected owners in this league.

You people just hate the Cowboys, and you let it cloud your judgement. You've been raised your whole life to hate the Cowboys because your whole life your idiot parents told you that they bought their super bowl wins, and when they realized that was stupid because 95 percent of the players on that team were drafted, they wen't with the old Jimmy Johnson excuse. Give it up man, be objective and stop letting your petty jealousy of the cowboys success from 15 freakin years ago piss you off.

OK, so now most folks on here still support the owners just NOT Jerry Jones. But you don’t get to support just some owners…it’s all or none.
______________________________________
Whatever side you support...to me it's more the philosophies for each side people are backing..not necessarily the people themselves. I mean most of us who love a team have had the experience of having to "root" for a player we have found personally repugnant because we love the team. I know I have. Same thing here..regardless of "side".
JJ has definitely been known to do the max to try to skirt revenue sharing which begs the question...why buy the team to begin with when owners sharing revenue with each other is a huge, huge reason we have the greatly competitive and successful sport it is today?

The only real way to put a stop to all this is simple. You and I, and all of us, can simply stop watching, especially on TV. When the sponsers and advertisers ( those folks who pay the TV tab ) discover that there's no audience, they will stop paying. The money will soon dry up.

But this will never happen. Why? Because we're addicts. And no one knows this better than the owners. They know we'll come back in droves for our football fixes and the money will flow again. Don't believe me? Well, read hatessychphants post, above.

NFL owners are not unlike casino owners who always, always refer to their customers as "the suckers." ( in private, of course ) They know the suckers will keep coming back to play the computer controlled machines that, sooner or later, take their money. Addicts.

Anybody know a good 12 step program?
