The 2011 Sports Emmys will be handed out on May 2. NBC has been nominated for 20 of them. One guy from NBC already has won one.

NBC’s Al Michaels will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for Sports.

“It’s amazing how his call of the U.S. Olympic hockey team’s 1980 ‘Miracle on Ice’ resonates to this day,” Steve Ulrich, Executive Director of the Sports Emmy Awards, said in a release. “Al’s legacy in sports television goes far beyond that moment, having called some of the greatest games in the history of the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA and the NHL.”

Al’s Lifetime Achievement Award is the third straight with an NBC connection. In 2009, the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Dick Ebersol. In 2010, John Madden received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Football-related NBC nominations include Sunday Night Football (outstanding live sports series), Football Night in America (outstanding weekly studio show), Sunday Night Football Extra (outstanding new approaches sports programming), Bob Costas and Dan Patrick (outstanding sports personality/studio host), Al Michaels (outstanding sports personality/play-by-play) and Cris Collinsworth (outstanding sports personality/sports event analyst).

Congrats to Al, and good luck to everyone else. Hopefully Bob and Dan will tie.
