Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will have to wait another year for his contract extension.

Owner Steve Bisciotti said Monday that he expects to extend Flacco’s deal sometime next year before the 2012 season begins.

“I hate to speak for Ozzie [Newsome, the team’s G.M.], but I would imagine that like John Harbaugh, we would be starting negotiations with [Flacco] so that entering 2012 he won’t be playing in his final year. I would anticipate an extension that starts in 2012,” Biscotti told Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun.

Under the proposed rookie wage scale expected to be adopted with a new CBA, rookie first-round picks would only have four-year deals to start their career. Flacco signed a five-year deal.

The Delaware product will have plenty of leverage after three playoff appearances in as many seasons, but he’ll have wait another year to get his new contract.

It may not hurt for Flacco to wait for Matt Ryan to get his second deal, then try to come in at a close number to Ryan.
