Lawrence Taylor to become a registered sex offender today

AP

One of the greatest players in NFL history will become a registered sex offender, as former Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor goes before a judge today for sentencing after his guilty plea to sexual misconduct and patronizing a 16-year-old prostitute.

Taylor is expected to avoid jail time as part of his plea deal, but he’s likely to get six years’ probation and sex offender designation.

The judge will determine whether Taylor is considered a Level 1, 2 or 3 sex offender for low, medium or high risk of recidivism.

The 52-year-old Taylor admitted to having sex with a prostitute who was a 16-year-old runaway, but said he thought she was 19. He was arrested in May at a hotel and originally charged with third-degree rape, patronizing a prostitute, sexual abuse and endangering a child.

UPDATE: Taylor did get six years probation and a sex offender designation.

  1. Good for you LT, good for you…..

What a fall from grace this guy has had. Such an amazing talent on the field and just one bad decision after another off of it.

  2. So they might want to remove the line from the end of “The Blindside” that says “Thank God for Lawrence Taylor”

  3. i wonder if his wife will stick by her Larry King interview comments that this girl only snuck in his room and poor Taylor gave her cash to help a girl down on her luck?

I cant believe he doesnt have to do jail time, ridiculous.

  4. Whats interesting is that had this legal designation (sex offender) and conviction occurred during his playing days it would have had almost no impact on him finding a job in the NFL.

  5. Still the greatest LB to ever play the game….

He may be a Sex Offender…but he still a Hall of Famer

  6. Being labeled a “sex offender” for life for having consensual sex, with a girl who said she was of age, is just wrong, IMO.

  7. He seems like a nice guy.

I’m kidding, he seems really aggressive.
    Impressive resume though:
    Giants LB
    Hall of Fame
Movie star (he was in a few, I didn’t say he is an actor)
    Registered Sex Offender
Sounds like a future Senator to me. Elect Lawrence Taylor!

  9. Regardless of what any of you say Lawrence Taylor will go down as one of the best pass rushers in NFL history. And always one of the biggest dirtbags in NFL history.

  10. Compare this to Dave Meggett’s case. He’s in jail rotting somewhere while LT is out free, tagged. Seems like some inequity in the legal system.

  11. While I firmly disagree that LT is the best D player ever, I do respect what he did on the field and I love him on Stern.

That being said, he earned this title. He IS a sex offender and the public needs protection from people like him.

  12. I’m not defending Taylor. Patronizing prostitutes is illegal in New York, and the girl had been visibly battered when the pimp brought her to his door. It was an idiot move on his part to get involved in this mess.

    But …

The purpose of the National Sex Offender Registry is to protect the public, not to punish people like Taylor. Hiring a prostitute he thought was of age doesn’t make him a danger to women and children. Every time they clog the registry with the name of someone who isn’t a predator, they make it harder for authorities to track people who are predators.

  13. I saw the link and thought “All because Ladanian Tomlinson (bleeps) over every team he plays for in the post season?”

Taylor is an animal. I’m sure from the time he bcame a football prodigy he thought rules and laws didn’t apply to him.
