Brian Orakpo offers a profane reaction to ESPN’s top pass rushers list

AP

The bloggers at ESPN.com recently voted on the Top 10 pass rushers in the NFL. One player who didn’t make the list is not happy about it.

Redskins defensive end Brian Orakpo, who didn’t get a single Top 10 vote from anyone on the eight-person panel of voters, went on Twitter today and offered a profane reaction.

“I seen some list rankin the top 10 pass rushers and left me off. F–K THEM im gonna kill the league next season,” Orakpo wrote (hyphens added by PFT).

It’s easy to see why Orakpo, who has 19.5 sacks in his two NFL seasons, is disappointed that he didn’t make the list. On the other hand, Orakpo’s 8.5 sacks in 2010 ranked him 24th in the league. So it’s not unreasonable that he’s not considered one of the Top 10 pass rushers in football.

  1. As a redskin fan nice to finally see one player on our team with drive. Now only if he can get 50 other players to feel the same.

  2. As far as ESPN is concerned, only two Redskins players are worth ink…McBarf and Haynesworthless….with a side of Danny “34 cents on the dollar” Snyder

  3. “I seen some list rankin the top 10 pass rushers and left me off …..”

    ~~~~~~~~~
    On the bright side that sort of clever repartee is sure to get him a ringside seat if the Algonquin Round Table ever reforms.
  4. Orakpo is no worse than 5th on that list. I’ll take Ware, Mathews, Peppers, and insert miscellaneous (whoever you want to argue for)here, then Orakpo. He gets held on EVERY play and it’s called about a fifth of the time at best. May not rack up sack numbers, but has great impact. …Now if only they had a good tackle…
  5. Name me a player on the Redskins who is in the top-10 of anything, besides the negative stats. I’m sure you could find one, but probably have to look long and hard.
    Example:
    Mike Williams is in the top-10 offensive lineman giving up the least number of sacks in the first five minutes of the third-quarter in Sunday 1:00p games starts.
  6. Orakpo sucks and so does his team.
    Going to be kind of hard to “kill the league” when its already dead.
    Thanks for Nothing Dsmith.
  7. add the 9 holding calls the guy blocking him got when he was about to sack the QB and he would rank higherpass rush beat the Cowboys and it did not count in his sack total.
  8. Ok, I recounted and maybe he’s number 9 or 10 over past two years, but if the refs didn’t allow him to be held(including at least one game deciding play) every play he’d have 10 more…lol
  9. “So it’s not unreasonable that he’s not considered one of the Top 10 pass rushers in football.”
    No, it really is. Go back and look at the tape from last season. I promise that Orakpo was the most held player in the NFL last year. No question. It’s the only way to stop him.
  10. “I seen some list rankin the top 10 pass rushers and left me off. F–K THEM im gonna kill the league next season,”
    If he kills the league like he’s murdered the English language, he’s going to be unstoppable.
  11. Not that I disagree with Orakpo…..but why repond like a childish punk?
    And to all the “he was held” whiners – think any of the guys on the list were held at all?
    Orakpo sucks and so does his team.
    realdeal12 – why dont you try bringing something useful to the table!?! I dont think a guy that has 19.5 sacks in two seasons sucks. Now maybe guys that has zero sacks like Maybin or Golston do…
  13. What a dumb argument about him being held, as if he is the only one being held in the entire league. Every pass rusher gets held, its part of the game. Look at Lamar Woodely and James Harrison, they are also always held.
    Redskins fans need to stop taking everything so personal.
  14. Over-Rated. Most of his sacks come in garbage time and have no impact on the league. Getting p-d off about some nonsense list is childish
  15. Haha, love the Skins fans that claim he’s the “most held player in the league” because one of the Skins beat writers (Steinberg?) often posts pictures of him being held.
    While I agree he is a great player and sees his share of holds not called, pretty much EVERY good 4-3 defensive end or 3-4 league-wide is held constantly. Orakpo isn’t being held any more than guys like Freeney, Ware, Allen, etc.
  16. I’m diehard Skins fan. But when your only multi-sack game in your career is against Jamarcus Rusell, you’re not a top pass rusher.
    Mix that in with being a first round pick, TE’s Kevin Boss (NYG) & Jeff King (CAR) destroying you in coverage and of course you won’t get any votes.
    Sad to say but without Al Haynesworth, Orakpo is EXTREMELY average.
    And for all those who claim he gets held more then anyother player, save it. Are you telling me Dwight Freeny, D. Ware, Cameron Wake don’t get held??
    Orakpo has never sacked Mike Vick, Tony Romo, and maybe Eli manning only once. AND THOSE ARE HIS DIVISION FOES!!
    Step your game up Orakpo. Then you can talk.
    And i’m a Skins fan
  17. Maybe it’s going to take more than 2 seasons worth of work to be considered for the Top 10. The list is mainly proven vets who have a long history of making an impact year in and out. Not to mention how bad the Redskins have been in the two years Orakpo has been in the league.
  18. Most defensive lineman are held on every play. Just the nature of the game. It’s not Offensive tackles pick and choose who they want to hold more. But truth be told… 8.5 sacks is an average season for a defensive end. Not a top 10 pass rusher. Not to mention… that a grown man has to use abbusive language to get his point across?
  19. I agree with you realdeal….every player gets held but the 4skin fan base again is making excuses for their poor play and inept team.
    Good players overcome being held and Orakpo flops worse than a WWE Wrestler. Lets face it…good first yr horrible second season and outside of a pass rush he gets manhandled on the run.
    He is leaps and bounds from ever being a D Ware and I predict a mediocre career for another bust for this joke of an org.
  20. I’m with Orakpo or as we say Sackpo…F…K’m they need to factor in the number of times a player is held then again he still might lose out cuz these blind a** refs see and call what they want most of the time anyway…but don’t worry Orakpo we know the real deal…and once Von Miller arrives oh boy open the gates baby…
  21. Settle down Brian, you didn’t even have as many sacks as Suh did (10), and last year was Suh’s rookie season.
  22. “add the 9 holding calls the guy blocking him got when he was about to sack the QB and he would rank higherpass rush beat the Cowboys and it did not count in his sack total.”
    But don’t worry about adding the holding calls the rest of the 23 players ahead of him got right?
  23. I think Jared Allen is over ranked, definitely. He’s a speed rusher and his numbers are coming down as his age goes up. I doubt his sack number next year get over 10, my guess is 6-8… No way he should be 5 on the list, he’s just not top 10 anymore.
    Guys like Tamba Hali are the future.
    Dwight Freeney? Sure he’s top 10 now, but next year? He’s another one who’s game is predicated on speed and he’s not getting younger.
    Like everything ESPN does, this list is poorly done and not well thought out. An unnamed scout a couple years ago told me this guy was the bestest ever… So what? If this is a preview of next year, than it shouldn’t be so predicated on what you’ve done, but what you’re projected to do.
    Orakpo has a point and I’d definitely have him in the top 10. And yeah, he gets held a lot. Better than letting you’re Qb take his autograph written in broken ribs.
  24. thereisalwaysnextyear says: Mar 23, 2011 1:37 PM
    Yes, but just a quick look(so I could be wrong) shows he ranks about number five over the last two years? The only two years he’s played.
    ———————————————————————
    Yep, you’re wrong. A quick look at the stats shows that of the 10 listed (over the last 2 years), 7 have more sacks (Ware (26.5), Hali (23), Allen (25.5), Freeney (23.5), Matthews (23.5), Harrison (20.5), Woodley (23.5)), 1 is tied (Wake), and 2 have just 1 less sack (Peppers and Abraham).
    So at the very best (judging sacks alone), he would be 8th. I would assume/hope that more thought went into making the list then just sack totals.
  25. And I don’t think Brian Orakpo is the ONLY guy in the league being held on a constant basis. Every fan can point to one guy on their team that gets held all the time.
    Orakpo had more in his Rookie season, 11 to Suh’s 10
    Statements like that will you put you in the ranks of realdeal12 and boysfold
    @lonespeed
    Landry, Fletcher, Hall, Otagwe, Orakpo. Shut up.
    ___________________________________
    Fletcher is a highly underrated player. Is he a top 10 at MLB? Let’s see. I counted 9 who are definitely better, and couldn’t find a player who I definitely thought was better than Fletcher, so I’ll let him slide at 10. I’ll give you that one.
    You just signed ATOGWE (You mispelled his name) away from the Rams, but, Spags basically said he wasn’t quick enough to play FS in the NFL, so let’s hope you don’t have yourself another Archuletta situation on your hands because we all know how that turned out for you.
    There’s a reason Hall is on his 3rd NFL team, he isn’t a top 10 corner. He’ll have 2 or 3 amazing games a season and 6 or 13 horrible games. Counting corners now.. I found more like 15 corners who I thought were better, with 5-10 more who were most likely better.
    Landry — isn’t everyone always complaining about how this guy should be moved to LB? Didn’t realize he still had supporters about him while he’s a safety. btw, Sean Taylor would’ve been #1 or 2 on the list of FS if that tragedy never happened. 😦
    ESPN didn’t even rank Orakpo on their top 10 list, so he’s obviously not top 10. /endsarcasm (but he really isn’t)
  29. over rated…..everybody gets held so stop your whining…..average player without fat al clogging the middle and taking up players.
  30. He hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet. Because he falls down stairs (drunk?) and cracks his skull. Maybe when he actually plays he might make the list. However, he is on the Skins roster and got paid last year for doing absolutely nothing.
  31. “im gonna kill the league next season”
    —-
    Too late, the prima donnas who decided to walk away from the negotiation table and file a lawsuit beat you to it.
  32. please stop whining about he’s being held on every play… there is holding on every play in every game, orakpo is a very good pass rusher and an impact player no doubt. so what if a few people didn’t rate him in the top ten. i’d take cm3 over him anyway.
  33. read beastofeden……couldnt have said it any better and if you look at his body of work it is very average at best.
    Another bust…whoa…whoa…whoa…..
    Fat Al wasn’t playing when he got held during that first Skins/ cowgirls game. You know the one that sealed the victory for the skins .
  35. this guy is a one trick pony ……yeah he SHOULD have alot more sacks because all he does is rush the passer ….he cant play the run worth a rats rump . …he has also played a crap schedule for 2 years were he should have piled up the numbers
  36. ” On the other hand, Orakpo’s 8.5 sacks in 2010 ranked him 24th in the league. So it’s not unreasonable that he’s not considered one of the Top 10 pass rushers in football.”
    ^^^^shows the limited and childlike thinking of those-who-we-are-supposed-to-listen-to-for-sage-football analysis.
    If they can’t find some arcane number, they can’t make a stupid list that means nothing anyway.
    Stats.
  37. You play for the RACIST SKINS! That’s why you where left off the list. You play for a laughingstock of a team. No one really cares about anyone on that team.
    FAIL!
  38. @lonespeed…if Mike Williams played for the Redskins I could see how that would be mildly amusing…but he does not, therefore you should shutup
  39. ” On the other hand, Orakpo’s 8.5 sacks in 2010 ranked him 24th in the league. So it’s not unreasonable that he’s not considered one of the Top 10 pass rushers in football.”
    Really? Forget the fact that the guy played DE in a 4-3 his entire college career. He’s been in the league 2 years and has 19.5 sacks and thats not enough to merit a top 10 consideration? Someone at the top of the list also had 19.5 sacks his 1st 2 years. His name is Demarcus Ware
  40. Orakpo is an average NFL DE. Almost every lineman gets held once or twice a game, so you can’t blame that lame try.
    _____________________
    Thanks for the objective analysis, goombar. Allen is 28 years old and has 55.5 sacks over the last four years. No one else has near that many. The last four years he’s had 15.5, 14.5, 14.5, and 11.0, so I guess his numbers are coming down, but it’s hardly a trend. He was pretty much the same the first three years and then had an off year. That off year is a great year for most DEs.
  42. Orakpo is nice…But Dumervil should be more upset. From 2006 -2009 (2010 injured) 43 sacks. if he played 2010 chances he would’ve had at least another 10 sacks are very good.
    Other players In that same time period
    Elvis Dumervil: 43
    DeMarcus Ware: 56.5
    Tamba Hali: 27
    Dwight Freeney: 33
    John Abraham: 36
    Jared Allen: 52
    James Harrison: 34.5
    Julius Peppers: 40.5
    LaMarr Woodley: 39 2007-2010
    Mario Williams: 39.5
    Terrell Suggs: 27
    Robert Mathis: 37.5
    I think Mario Williams should be more pissed he’s not on there also.
  43. Mabye he should call Shanahan after the lockout and take him and Haynesworth out to dinner and smooth things out. Haynesworth may be a complete a** but if Orakpo wants to be top 10 he needs to line up beside big Al. otherwise he is just another average pass rusher.
    You line up those two with Al motivated and one will get to the QB every play.
  44. There are quite a few readers who are voting “thumbs down” to the posts that highlight that Brian Orakpo was frequently held during last season. To those who voted “thumbs down” on those observations, I have one question: WHAT COLOR IS THE SKY IN YOUR WORLD??
