Todd Haley confirms Thomas Jones will return to Chiefs

When the Chiefs lost their Wild Card game against the Ravens, running back Thomas Jones said he wasn’t sure if he’d return in 2011.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley confirmed to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star that Jones will indeed be back.

“I couldn’t be more excited about what Thomas Jones has brought to this team both as a player and as a leader,” Haley said.  “He’s the epitome of the same guy every day. We’ve got a little plan for Thomas that I’m excited about getting to. I’m excited to have Thomas back. He’s a big part of what we’re doing.”

Jones averaged less than three yards-per-carry from November on after a strong start and wound up with 245 carries.  Perhaps he helped keep Jamaal Charles fresh and set a good example, but Jones’ carries should be reduced significantly next season.

Jones is due $2.9 million in total pay for 2012.

I traded for TJ in November in fantasy. Totally tailed off thereafter. Although, I only traded Shonn Greene for him.

Some will say this is a blow to J. Charles fantasy stock but a good solid back-up is just what J.C. needs for the long haul.

I was under the impression that no one was to have any contact with players.

I figured they’d move on after seeing he lost a step, but 2.9 is reasonable. Still would make sense for them to draft one of talented RBs projected to go in the middle of the draft.

How can you not keep him for under $3?

I highly doubt Haley has any plans to use Jones in the wildcat. I actually highly doubt Haley has any plans to use the wildcat in depth, really.

Haley is going to start running sets with Jones and Charles in the backfield at the same time to keep the defense off balance. I don’t know how often they’ll do this, but they are going to do it. Otherwise, Jones will primarily be used on 1st and 2nd downs to beat up and wear down the defense so Charles can come in and steam roll a tired, battered defense later in the game.

Haley better have a damn plan for everyone on offense since Weiss left! And he better be planning to get Brokie croyle’s china doll ass out of town for a solid back up QB. Very glad TJ is back though. Class act

“We have a plan for him…it involves reducing his role and hence, his salary”

good move by Haley for once. it will keep opposing defenses somewhat honest and more importantly save the wear and tear on Charles

How does he know? Coaches can’t talk to players during the lockout, right? Right!

Obviously this was decided BEFORE the lockout…just because this is getting out now, doesnt mean it just happened…it just means this is the first time someone has asked him about it. Come on ppl, use your heads.
