I've been watching the marketing of the Super Bowl for awhile and noted the weird humor of the organizers following the Ten Commandments in the cities of Decapolis--the free Greek cities during Jesus' time. I believe Indianapolis will play out in 2012 because to keep in sync the marketers need to keep on target with what they are doing. The Ten Commandments are in the book of Exodus 20 while they've been lining up the years with Exodus for the Super Bowls. So after 2012 fitting Exodus 20:12 of the Ten Commandments you have New Orleans in 20:13 fitting with their deliberate selection of "you shall not murder" in the murder capital of the US, 20:14 fits with their selection of New Jersey in the Garden State, while I'm leaning towards London for 2015 correlating to Exodus 20:15 because ultimately they'll end up in Philadelphia for 2017. Haven't figured out 2016 yet. I didn't say they were being religiously complimentary. Tampa doesn't fit for Exodus 20:15. It needs to be London.

Santa Clara is "on hold" as you put it, becuase there is no money, moolah, cashish, bucks or funds to make this happen. Nothing to do with the CBA. It sounds plausible though. Nice fiction.

If you think that public funds, 50 Million of them, are going to a stadium with no parking that will house 10 events a year in a state that is bankrupt, you have another thing coming.

Santa Clara will never happen. Period. Watch.

It makes more sense to me that they're holding off until a CBA is finalized to see if that Super Bowl should be awarded to Santa Clara or Los Angeles.

Projects in both of those cities are on hold until the CBA situation is sorted out, and the new agreement would likely include some sort of replenishment of the G4 stadium fund, which would be a big help to the Santa Clara project.

And while I realize arrangements would have to be made, it is early enough where the NFL could have contingencies in place where if Super Bowl XLVI isn’t played as scheduled in Indianapolis in 2012 OR if that game comes at the end of a truncated season due to the lockout (and you are more likely to get mild weather in New York on Presidents Day weekend as opposed to the first weekend in February anyway.

Don't bet on it. It snowed there this week.

Business as usual in the NFL. They seem to be carrying on as if there is no lockout. So why delay announcing the SB site four years from now. Many of the current players won't be around by then anyway. Just keep it in warm weather locations (other than Dallas - it's cold enough there in February to freeze the balls off a pool table).

Unless the government sticks their nose in where it doesn’t belong there will be no football in 2011……..there could be if the players finally come to their senses and are willing to sit down and negotiate a fair CBA. Keep Obama style socialism out of the NFL.

-------------------------------------
I suspect it won't get to that point:

The networks because of what's at stake for them I suspect will try to force a settlement, possibly before the upfronts in May so they can know their prime time shows will be promoted during the NFL season, given the NFL is the 800-pound gorilla of TV ratings these days.

Wouldn’t it be simpler to just bump everything back one year? Put indy in for 2013, NO -2014 and then NY in 2015. Is planning for 2013/2014 really so far along?

Many of these facilities are booked years in advance for conventions.
Simply backing everything up a year is not an option.

I want the SB to be played in Buffalo, but we all know that won’t ever happen. Today’s small market teams have no shot, its crap. Our stadium might not have all the features yours does, but we have two things you don’t, a great history and the fact that football was meant to be played out in the elements, not indoors.
========================

I understand your sentiment, but you're not getting why Buffalo isn't getting a SB. It's not because of the weather- ask NY/NJ.

It's because the City of Buffalo lacks the amenities needed. Cities hosting Super Bowls are required by the NFL to have at least 20,000 hotel rooms available.

Jacksonville, which is a larger city than Buffalo, had to dock cruise ships to reach the required number of rooms.

And while I realize arrangements would have to be made, it is early enough where the NFL could have contingencies in place where if Super Bowl XLVI isn't played as scheduled in Indianapolis in 2012 OR if that game comes at the end of a truncated season due to the lockout (and therefore, not a legit Super Bowl in the eyes of those who feel the full schedule must be played for it to be), the NFL could perhaps push New York back a year to 2015 and give Indy the game in 2014, something I might consider doing anyway even if there turns out not to be a lockout. That in turn might be better for New York since the 2014-'15 season is probably the earliest the NFL can realistically move the Super Bowl to Presidents Day weekend anyway due to the fact the 2014 game would be taking place right before the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and you are more likely to get mild weather in New York on Presidents Day weekend as opposed to the first weekend in February anyway.

Would you rather watch 2nd rate replacements play for the current NFL teams?
