On Twitter, Ochocinco is more influential than Barack Obama

Chad Ochocinco isn’t just a two-sport athlete, playing football for the Bengals and soccer for Sporting Kansas City. He’s also the most influential American on Twitter.

David Leonhardt of the New York Times reports that the researchers at Twitalyzer rank Ochocinco second, behind only to Brazilian comedian Rafinha Bastos, in terms of worldwide Twitter influence.

Twitalyzer measures influence by how people shape the conversation on Twitter, in terms of being mentioned and having their own tweets re-tweeted, and not just how many followers a tweeter reaches. So Ochocinco, whose Twitter account features breaking stories from the Ochocinco News Network, is more influential on Twitter than celebrities like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, who have far more followers than he does.

Ochocinco checks in one spot ahead of Conan O’Brien in the Twitter influence rankings. The other Americans in the Top 10 are No. 5. Ryan Seacrest, No. 6. Snoop Dogg, No. 7. Barack Obama, No. 8. Rainn Wilson and No. 9. Kim Kardashian.

Good comparison….. Ochocinco and Barack Obama. Both are clowns that will be irrelevant in two years.

  8. JSpicoli says: Mar 24, 2011 6:08 PM

85 would also be a better President.

He would suck, but not as bad as Neo, the Chosen One.

    Ochocinco’s tweets are actually Ochocinco.

If Barack Obama (or any standing president from here on out) actually tweeted themselves and shared candid thoughts, I’d follow them. But it’s all highly controlled and filtered. Not worth much.

    Not buying this at all.

I follow Chad, nothing of any meaning or value comes out of his tweets. What story has he ever broke?

@sportsguy Bill Simmons, @HowardStern, @Alyssa_Milano, have significantly more twitter influence than Chad.

And I like Chad, but not buying this story.

  13. touchdownroddywhite says: Mar 24, 2011 6:16 PM

I wonder if they factored in volume since I bet Ocho tweets a lot more than some of the other names listed.

  14. norcalmafia says: Mar 24, 2011 6:17 PM

  19. elrushbo2 says: Mar 24, 2011 6:34 PM

  24. chrismatthewsucks says: Mar 24, 2011 6:58 PM

Hey Obama won with little qualification to be pres, i’m sure Ocho can as well.

One thing we know is ocho is no war criminal.

  25. kingjamsi says: Mar 24, 2011 6:59 PM

ughh… Cue the right-wing sycophants who feel the need to spew tea-bagger vitriol at every mention of Obama’s name…

  26. bigdinla says: Mar 24, 2011 7:03 PM

I weep for today’s youth. Twitter is quite possibly the most ignorant thing ever!

  27. chapnastier says: Mar 24, 2011 7:16 PM

I am not an Obama person by any means but it is a sad day in this country when the President isn’t the most influential person. Granted its twitter and half the people on it are twits, but still.

  28. stairwayto7 says: Mar 24, 2011 7:17 PM

What else does Ocho-stinko have to do other than being an overrated WR? Have a tv show on VH1? Oh wait……………………

Unfortunately for all, Ocho is probably smarter and less arrogant as well.

    oh my god ocho…………..

  32. gypjet says: Mar 24, 2011 7:43 PM

It is so funny how liberal pukes are sports fans. If you really followed your beliefs, you would never watch or support the NFL. You commies hate millionaires, men that act macho, violence, and rich lifestyles that ‘hurt our planet’. Obama is an idiot loser with no paper trail of his entire life. Forget the birth certificate, how about the missing college grades and papers, financial aid records where he got loans/grants as a foreign student, list of his “law clients”, not one single girlfriend ever found, his immediate termination of his membership in the Illinois bar, what passport he traveled to pakistan with in 1981, why he claimed two different hospitals he was born in, etc etc etc. At least Ocho has a paper trail.

  33. cruells says: Mar 24, 2011 8:00 PM

Let him run.. He can’t be any worse then any other republican.. It would be funny to see him tied with Donald “The Hairpiece” Trump and “Crazy” Sarah Palin.. For the republican candidate..

And hey if he is a democrat all he has to do is get some support from some hollywood celebs and Oprah and your in..

As a european I look forward to the comming election race.. It will be like a sitcom to see .. One candidate is more messed up then the other..

  34. frankvzappa says: Mar 24, 2011 8:13 PM

hmmm…arrogant athlete who is only famous because of his god-given natural talent, or foreign usurper who is an agent of communist globalists and is embroiling this country in more unconstitutional, endless wars, furthering the fascist policies of GWB (they are all the same) while pretending he is not a fascist who was backed by the arch-terrorist George Soros into power? tough call…

Its a sad time when people have nothing better to do then read what this clown Twitters all day long, perhaps they could study for a better job, however some just wait for the welfare check generation after generation, Bill Crosby had it right about this ass pants hanging fools. Bill p.s. now watch some of them prove I’m correct.

  36. zaggs says: Mar 24, 2011 8:40 PM

  38. Canyonero says: Mar 24, 2011 9:44 PM

Yeah probably, but Obama could whup his ass on the golf course.

  39. thefiesty1 says: Mar 24, 2011 10:25 PM

    Yeah, they are both terrible.

  40. mizzousooner says: Mar 24, 2011 10:25 PM

Lets see, our economy is in the tank, Japan is an irradiated disaster zone, the middle east is on fire, Obama’s coalition for Libya is falling apart, meanwhile the Prez jets off to Rio. Hell yeah I’d take 85 over the clown we have now. It couldn’t be any worse!

Society today is on its way to hell in a handbasket. In a world where social media has taken its toll and has effected our priorities. This runs deeper than a twitter war. Truly, examine what is important. Us humans are intrigued by distractions. #Realtalk

  42. smfowler says: Mar 25, 2011 12:26 AM

50 cent tweeted a penny stock when it was $.10/share
and it went up to $1.61/share at it’s highest.

Name one tweeter who can raise a stock 1600%+.

  43. hedleykow says: Mar 25, 2011 2:55 AM

Once Obama streamlines the process of teleprompter to tweet, he will kick Ocho’s ass.

    Read it and weep, losers.

  44. albrightmk says: Mar 25, 2011 8:59 AM

Well why not ? Ochocinco is more intelligent and honest than Obama. People laugh WITH Ochocinco who seems to know he’s a kind of silly character….people laugh AT Obama, who seems to think he’s entitled.

  45. patfic15 says: Mar 25, 2011 9:04 AM

now if only all 10 could board the same jet…and well, you know…

  46. marylandelphiamouse says: Mar 27, 2011 1:55 PM

I’m an avid tweeter and I happily follow Ochocinco. However, this research means nothing whatsoever. Why?

-Twitter is mostly for entertainment purposes, and, although many people voted for him because he was a bigger “pop icon” than Justin Bieber, Obama is not an entertainer.

-Ochocinco actually tweets himself, Obama does not.

If B.O. starts tweeting, we’re in big(ger) trouble, and I’ll be forced to blame the study and this story.
