Hall of Fame center/linebacker Chuck Bednarik is conscious, sitting up and talking at St. Luke’s Hospital but is not ready to be released, his family says.

“They’re still running tests on him,” son-in-law Ken Safarowic told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It’s not a heart attack. His heart is as strong as when he was playing. But I think he’ll be in the hospital for a couple more days.”

The 85-year-old Bednarik, who played for the Eagles from 1949 to 1962 and was the last full-time two-way player in the NFL, is a longtime fan favorite for his toughness, which is even on display in the hospital.

“I wish I could say he’s resting comfortably, but he’s never been one to be comfortable sitting still,” Safarowic said. “He’s like, ‘Get me the hell out of here.’ ”

We hope he’ll be the hell out of there soon.
