Chad Ochocinco looks “ragged” in first soccer game action

Chad Ochocinco AP

Reviews are in for Chad Ochocinco’s first game action as a member of Sporting Kansas City.

The Associated Press says Ocho’s performance was “ragged” and afterward he agreed that his conditioning skills were lacking.  He participated in a “reserve” game with other backups against a local minor league team.

Ochocinco knew ahead of time he had no real chance of making the team.  He said as much to the team’s coach Peter Vermes in a behind-the-scenes meeting that was aired during a segment on Sportscenter Monday.

Vermes said he’ll meet with Ochocinco on Tuesday to decide what comes next.  Most likely, Ochocinco’s soccer experiment will be up.

“I’ve been away from the game since I was a little kid,” Ochocinco said. “I’m just having fun. The skill set is not there like it should be. All I can do out here on the pitch is probably just run fast. Other than that, I just enjoyed it.”

Too bad he is not really that fast anymore.

Why can’t he be this humble with football.

I think it doesnt really matter how well he did, they will still say he wasnt very good and never stood a chance.

Football fans quit caring about this clown long ago……Over the past couple years his football skills havent been that swell either all he has done is talk up a storm, back up none of it and then curl in the fetal position and not follow through on a single word he spouts off

too bad he cant get paid for dodging bills, obligations and promises. he is damn good at all that.

  9. blackglass3 says: Mar 28, 2011 9:59 PM

Hey, credit him for trying and for very graciously pointing out how much skill soccer players have and how he is nowhere near that level.

Ocho is perfect for this version of “football,” its the only sport in the world that finds a game with no scoring acceptable.

  11. janvanflac says: Mar 28, 2011 10:13 PM

How can he have “conditioning skills”?

There is conditioning, and there are skills, but they are two totally different things.

Funny how nearly 1900 yards and 13 TDs over the past 30 games is considered “curling in the fetal position”

Yeah Chad isn’t the 1300-1400 yard WR that he use to be, but most teams would still love to have a WR as good as Chad, and there are still plenty of CBs who will agree that Chad is one of the most difficult WRs to cover. Darelle Revis said as much last year, and Joe Haden said the same thing this year. But I’m sure you know better than either of them.

And what’s funny is, if people didn’t care about him like you claim, then he wouldn’t get so much publicity. The truth is though, that a ton of people care. Whether it’s his fans, or his haters, anything with his name on it generates a lot of hits. Soccer got very little coverage…. until Chad tried out for it.

Predictable. I was hoping he would fade away into soccer oblivion.

Are you saying you can never put a word in front of “skills” to help define the kind of skill you are referring to?

With 32 teams what is the reason you keep having article on this clown? Can’t do any real reporting and find a new story to write about? Bill

too old, no stamina, fear of committment, no dedication,
all he cares about is self promotion & $$$$….
1 good thing that might happen if next season is lost….some of the self promoting yahoo’s just might retire…. but i’m not holind my breath…

“When will this idiot stop the self-promotion and get out of our lives? Can’t stand the guy”

Reall? When a player like Tebow charges for autographs, he is an a**hole, but still has a big following. On the opposite end of the spectrum, when a player constantly takes fans out and buys them gifts, racks up $10 grand restaurant bills for his fans, takes them on trips and shopping sprees…somehow he is just another a**hole? Ochocinco’s self promotion, while you may not like what he has to say, is incredible for the fans. He is THE most fan friendly player in the NFL or any other league. Some people are too jaded by hate to accept that people like him are fantastic for the league. Apparently in this modern day world you must murder, assault, or “sexually assault” people to be considered a fan favorite.

CO “trying out” earned this team publicity it could not have gotten otherwise, and he was able to do something fun and different.

    Seems like a harmless win-win.

I don’t like some of Ocho’s behavior on the field, but off it he seems like a genuinely nice person.

In a football climate where labour negotiations and disputes dominate the media, it is refreshing to read stories like this. Chad is a funny guy, and clearly now, a lot more humbled than some people first thought. All credit to him for trying; not many have succeeded in doing so over the years.

  23. canjura says: Mar 29, 2011 4:19 AM

It’s just a child hood dream, he never expected to make the team. My child hood dream would be to get a tryout for an NFL team. Hell, I’ll go out there right now and put my life on the line to get ONE tryout for an NFL team. It’s never going to happen to me, why are all of you bashing Chad for living his? I know you negative Nancy’s wish you could get a tryout at something you did as a kid and enjoyed.

When David Beckham got to the LA Galaxy, he invited the whole team out to a steak place. Then he paid HIS OWN TAB and told the rest of the players if he bought their dinner he wouldn’t be looked at as “one of the lads”. You know, the guy that just signed the $300M contract while the rest of the team was making barely minimum wage wanted to be “one of the guys”.

85, on the other hand, has money and is willing to share. He took Sporting KC to Fogo De Chao and the entire tab was on him, which sure as hell isn’t cheap.

People that bash Chad are haters, nothing more and nothing less.
