Brett Favre won’t be joining the Panthers, just in case you were wondering

Buried in the rubble of a Charley Walters notes column in the St. Paul Pioneer Press Sunday is the following statement, which surely scared the crap out of Panthers beat writers:

“Don’t discount the possibility of Brett Favre, who turns 42 in October, returning next season, but not with the Vikings. Maybe Carolina,” Walters writes.

We’re familiar enough with Walters’ odd mix of rumors and conjecture that we usually ignore him. But the note got enough attention for someone in Carolina to track it down.

Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald says Favre-to-the-Panthers is “not happening.”

“Ran it up the flagpole early this morning, and the response was swift and sure,” Gantt said.

Carolina fans will have to settle for possibly adding just one Bus Cook client at quarterback.
