Rusty Smith: Coaches know what I can do

While Cardinals and Vikings fans may disagree, the Titans are probably the team most desperate for a quarterback this offseason.

The only guy on the roster that is sticking around is Rusty Smith, a 2010 sixth-round pick who threw four interceptions and no scores in 40 attempts last year. Smith has heard the talk that the team will be adding a veteran and a rookie to the mix.

“I think a lot of that has to do with newspaper people talking about that stuff,” Smith told John Glennon of the Nashville Tennessean. “They tend to forget about small guys like me. I think the coaching staff knows what I can do and that I’m still here and working hard.”

This is one time you can’t blame the newspaper people. Titans G.M. Mike Reinfeldt has specifically said the team is interested in adding a draft pick (probably a high one) and a veteran to the mix. When talking about a possible starter, Reinfeldt didn’t mention Smith.

Smith is currently working out with roughly 10 other Titans at Father Ryan High School, in workouts organized by cornerback Cortland Finnegan.

With only Smith at quarterback and a new offensive coordinator, the Titans may be hurt by the lockout more than any team.
