And now, a typical scene from the lockout

So general managers and agents aren’t supposed to be talking.

Conversation is surely going on behind the scenes in places, but not in public even though they know each other well and they are often in the same place at the same time.

How does that work exactly?

Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times paints the picture from the UCLA Pro Day this week.

Nick Barnett’s agent Chuck Price bumps into Packers G.M. Ted Thompson: “We’re not supposed to talk, are we?” Price said.

Thompson: “Well, you can talk, but I have to turn around and walk away.”

And . . . scene.

Is there some sort of “Get back to the table and talk” group on facebook that I can like?

I think that was Ted’s effort towards negotiating with Nicky B this off season – “You can talk, but we’re walking away”.

Maybe Barnett can take to Twitter to express his hurt feelings.

Please… if it weren’t for Barnett’s price tag and the emergence of a few young players behind him while he was injured, Barnett would be back in the green and gold again next year. Let’s not act like he was a terrible player, he’s been running that defense from the middle linebacker spot since he came into the league. Let’s not forget the Hawk wasn’t able to adapt in year one of the 3-4, and Kampman didn’t make it through that transition either while Barnett held it down and made all the calls from day one with Capers. Someone is going to get a good player in Barnett simply because the Packers have been drafting well and building depth for some time now.

If that were the case, the statement would have to include several long, drawn out pauses!

“Well….. you can talk………. but I………. have to turn around…………….(tip of sunglasses) and walk away.”

i know players and coaches aren’t supposed to be talking. but if they aren’t talking, they’re idiots! … phone rings. “hey tom brady, this is coach belichick. i ain’t calling you, i’m calling gisele, put her on.” “hi coach. my husband sure is mad at you.” “i’m mad right back. let’s talk football, gisele.” “okay. mind if i put you on speaker phone, i’m holding a bag of money.” “it’s your house, doll face.”

Barnett WAS a very good player but how long has it been since he’s made a consistent impact NEAR the line of scrimmage. I would say it’s been at least 4 seasons. Meanwhile, his “jawjacking” has gone thru the roof even though he hasn’t finished 2 of the past 3 seasons.

You know what’s got Nicky Barnett and his agent all up in a lather? All that funny money being spent out in Minnesota. 10 mil to Greenway, so you know Barnett and his agent think they can get 12-15 mil.

I’m going to enjoy watching you backpedal when it’s time to resign Matthews….
