Redskins line up visits with elite draft prospects

NFL Owners Meet To Discuss Status Of Contract Negotiations Getty Images

We’ve been doing our best to stay on top of all reported pre-draft visits and workouts on the 2011 prospects tracker (well over 500 meetings tracked), and Chris Russell of ESPN 980 has been of an utmost help when it comes to the Redskins.

Russell has confirmed the following:

Virginia Tech running back Ryan Williams will arrive at Redskins Park on April 14 for an official visit. His meeting will last through Friday the 15th.

Williams is a possibility for Washington in the second round.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton will follow Williams on the Redskins’ schedule. Newton has an official visit on April 15.

Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara and Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will both be at Redskins Park on the 17th.

USC offensive tackle Tyron Smith is scheduled to arrive on the 18th for another team-facility visit.

Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller has an official visit scheduled with Washington, but Russell is still trying to pin down the date.

Other prospects confirmed to be on the Skins’ radar are Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor, Baylor guard Danny Watkins, Penn State running back Evan Royster, TCU quarterback Andy Dalton, Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley, Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan, Florida guard/center Mike Pouncey.

The fun thing about the Skins is that they’ll always be in position to line up visits with the elite draft prospects.

at least once a year great players will be coming to visit the redskins and not playing for the other team. too bad they arent playing for the redskins either haha

Trade down for more picks…there’s a need at almost every position for this team.

I think most reams would love to get a Portis Jr (at least a youg Prtis) , and Williams had ONE injury. He is worth a second round pick guaranteed.

i thought the same thing. handle the handles is a moron. im a skins fan, and id LOVE a young clinton portis. drama? sure, there was some, but nothing that prevented him from representing DC quite well.

He literally put the skins on his back and ran them into the playoffs a few years back. CP was great.

If I was a skins fan I wouldnt even know where to start thinking about whose jersey I would purchase. I can honestly say that the skins are the only team that there isnt one player whos jersey I would wear. Orakpo maybe?

Best option: Trade down. There are too many needs.

If they don’t trade down….DO NOT pick a quarterback with that first pick!

As a Skins fan, I implore them to trade down for some extra picks and get as many young players on this team as they can.

Besides London Fletcher, the old players play their age.

After visiting with all of the elite players, the Redskins announced they were prepared to sign one or more of them … at well above market price five to seven years after some other team drafted them.

As to why the Redskins wouldn’t consider drafting any of these players in the first place, Snyder responded with “These guys haven’t yet done a darn thing in the NFL. Not a sack, catch, TD or tackle between the sorry lot of them. I want to see production before you get my interest.”

washington needs to trade down in the first round and select jake locker with the pick.in round 2 we need to draft an offense or defensive lineman. in free agency we need to sign mike sims walker or sidney rice. trading down I round 1 will allow us to pick up a third round pick and with that pic we can select a running back or wide receiver

If trading down doesn’t work out….Best available at 10….Andy Dalton in the 2nd.

Hey morons saying a young portis would be good…. What do you mean by young? Like when he was in denver? hahaha Portis is a weight on the Redskins Depth chart…

I look at portis like I look at Larry johnson.. Just a problem on the team….

Sorry not a redskins fan and never will be…

    Mike Tomlin,

I dunno that’s a good question.. As a Skins fan it gets a bit tiring to hear the same lame remarks over and over again, but sometimes we ask for it in the past with all our over the top FO moves that certainly didn’t pan out.

Orakpo is hardly the only player worth buying a jersey of as I can think of quite a few players on this team- Laron Landry, London Fletcher, O.J Atogwe, Deangelo Hall, Chris Cooley, Trent Williams, Fred Davis.

Hopefully they make some moves so they can get some additional picks they no doubt need starters at OLB, NT, WR, QB and possibly RB to be somewhat competitive next season. Either way its a process win or lose a Skins fan stays loyal to their team, cant wait to win the off-season again though and I pray it will carry into the regular season for once. HAIL!
