Long are you forgetting that Palmer will retire before he plays for you guys again. And as bad as many say Orton is, and I am one of those people, Palmer has been worse. Have you checked his stats over the last five years. And he had a monster receiver group last year. I’ve also been taking a little of that draft value chart. Since the difference in value between the number four and the number two is 800 points, Denver could ask for your second and fourth and Cincy would still owe Denver a mid third rounder just to even that trade out. So according to the value chart many teams use. It’s a fair deal.

I’m not sure what you think Palmer’s value is on the open market. But I will bet you it’s not much more than Orton’s if not a little less. Orton is three years younger after all.

dcbronco – Denver could trade Orton and the number two overall for the number four, Carson Palmer, the number 34 pick and Cincy’s third next year. If Gabbert is still there Cincy would jump at that. Buffalo is high on Newton. Denver than could pick up Von Miller and still have one of the elite players available.

DC I need some of what you are taking, I could see Orton and the #2 for Palmer and the #4 but there is no way Cincy gives up #34 and a third next year!

Captain, you’re assuming the trial next week won’t force the league to start doing business again. After all, locking out the players was an option while they were a union. Now that they are not, it becomes an anti trust issue. Thirty two “individual” companies can’t lockout a specific group of “unassociated” people. Remember. Having Von Miller as a plaintiff brings the case to a head because a rookie having his opportunities limited by a draft would have to be settled before that draft. So the lockout issue and teams ability to trade should be settled by the 6th or sooner after. I’m sure the league doesn’t want to cancel the draft.

Denver is doing their due diligence. If they were to pick a QB at number 2 in this weak class then the stupidity in Dove Valley still remains and the entire front office should be fired.

I know some of you guys are in love with Tebow but if he’s really not the guy than yes, the Broncos should absolutely draft a QB this year.

“Weak class?” Last year was a weak class if there ever was one! The Broncos look to be in good hands and if they draft a QB (other than Newton, who sucks) this year it’ll be for the right reasons.

No sense in wasting any more time on a project like Tebow unless the whole Bronco organization is all in, and it looks like they’re not.

I don’t expect them to take a QB in the first round. Maybe the second with either Kapernick or Locker. They need to add a QB as Orton and Tebow are NOT their QB of the future.

Everyone in Denver’s front office would be complete idiots to draft a QB right now. I understand that you don’t want to pass up a franchise QB. However, when your defense plays like garbage each week then I doubt even Montana in his prime could win games. Denver’s need’s to draft D………………

Wonder if Denver would trade Tebow to Jacksonville for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. New regimes usually mean new QB’s and Elway doesnt seem to be on the Tebowagon. Tebow could compete with Garrard for the starting job and go back home. Jags fans would love it (maybe) and Denver would get something out of it. Not a fan of either team, just a thought.

In this scenario, they (Denver) could draft Gabbert at #2 or wait until the 2nd or 3rd round for a QB.

broncfanor, I think you’re taking these comments as standalone facts. You have to add the other Elway interviews and the player visits into the equation to understand why people believe Denver could take a QB. I don’t believe any of the QBs available are worth it this year. But the fact that Elway has said in the past that Tebow is not there yet and that they aren’t sure if the guy that can win Denver a championship is currently on the team makes you question if Tebow is the guy. Each team gets a limited number of player visits. I believe 28. It might be only twenty. As bad as Denver has been defensively over the last two years, Five of Denver’s 19 visits so far have been with QBs. You don’t waste 25% of your search resources on something you already have. It’s pretty obvious Denver wants a new QB. And Cincinnati would make an excellent trading partner.

Really? .. Dumervil put up 23 sacks in a 4-3 defense in his first 3 years in the league .. Which was when his defensive coordinator was changing every season and still is .. Dumervil isn’t an every down DE in a 4-3 .. just like he shouldn’t be an every down OLB in a 3-4 .. But he’s an effective pass rush specialist in either scheme

I believe this is a semi smokescreen. They have no intention of picking a QB in the first round. But they want people to think they will so they can trade down with one of the desperate teams picking in the top ten that also needs a QB. They could pick up an additional second or even a first for next year. Even Buffalo would be willing to trade if Carolina skips Gabbert and others are trying to move up to get him. That would bring the Broncos an additional third and they would still be able to pick any of the remaining players they wanted.

Elway is playing this well. Carolina can make his position even stronger by not taking a QB. There are six teams in the top ten that need a QB. Moving into the number one spot is very expensive. A team at five this year would have to give up their number one this year and next just to get to the number one spot. And most likely an additional second if the next years number one wasn’t a top ten pick too. Even if one of the top ten moved to number one, Elway’s position still remains strong because every year we see teams reach as a position starts to move off the board. With only two guys, maybe three, believed to be franchise potential. Teams will scramble to move up.

But the reason I say this is a semi-smokescreen is that I believe Denver wants Colin Kaepernick. And getting an extra second rounder to draft him and still be able to concentrate on defense with most of the rest of the picks would be an excellent first draft for The Duke.

Since the Broncos have such a high pick, maybe Elway is talking up the QB angle to see if he can smoke out a club drafting lower in the first round which has a desperate need for a QB. Nothing wrong with churning the waters to see if somebody is willing to throw a bunch of draft picks your way for your first round pick because the Broncos do need more than just one player to improve their woes, especially on defense.

Elway might be looking to pull a typical New England Patriot ploy and trade down for multiple picks and still get a worthy player in the first round.

Obviously, there is no Elway talented QB coming out this year, so why waste a high pick on a QB who is not of his caliber.

Jesus, I will be so pissed if the Broncos spend another pick on a QB this year. It doesn’t even matter whether Orton, Tebow, or Quinn are good QBs. What matters is that QB is so far down the list of what has made the Broncos suck the last few years that drafting a QB shouldn’t even be an afterthought. It would be like getting a nose job when you are 300 pounds overweight.

I am the only one who thinks Kyle Orton is a fairly good QB. The guy put up good numbers last year. I think he is a better QB than what half the teams have.

This just another example of how being a great player doesn’t trnslate to being a good front office guy.

This guy has Orton who has proven hes an above average QB who imo can get a superbowl with a good defense and running game. And he has Tebow who didn’t look quite as bad as everyone wants him to be last year. I don’t think Tebow can be Manning or Brady, but he doesn’t have to be. The broncos would be wise to trade down for more picks as QB is the least of their worries. What they should be doing is finding a way to trade Dummervil to the PAts for two of their early picks since he just can’t play end in a 4-3 and bolstering their Defense or drafting a wide out.

In fact if denver doesn’t draft one of the two big time WR in this draft they are stupid and deserve what they get.

The only motivation this should give Tebow is to realize that Elway and the broncos are going nowhere but to the cellar .

If he thinks there is some QB out there that is gonna turn around a defense giving up 29 ppg well hes a fool and I would want to be traded very badly lol .

I think everyone is seeing why the Broncos have slipped so badly these past few years and they hired someone who basically embodies the same attitude as the current fanbase .

They think one guy namely the QB is gonna turn there fortunes around and instead of building with a team philosophy they build with a superstar philosophy which means they will waste pick after pick year after pick on one skill position while ignoring things like defense and the running game even though history has shown that even Elway didnt win without a defense or running game .

The Broncos are at least 5-6 years away from even considering turning things around . They will have to fall hard on there current path before there eyes will be open to change.

I agree with broncofanor. I just don’t see any of these qb’s in this years draft being franchise quarterbacks. None of them strikes me as a Sam Bradford for example. I think Tebow is a great person and a great guy, but I’m not so sure he’s going to be a great qb in the NFL. The Broncos better hold their fire on a qb until a legit franchise guy comes along. They can still develop a winner there with a great defense, a strong running game and a decent qb, which they might have already on the roster. A guy who can manage the offense for the for a season or two until that franchise qb comes along.

I would be shocked it they DON’T pick a QB with that pick and expect Tebow to be traded as soon as the labor problems are settled, probably to the Dolphins who were high on him prior to last year’s draft (at least Parcells was and even though he is no longer there, Ireland and Tony might share the same thinking).
