This young man is being pressured into trying to perform. Whether the pressure is from himself or others, the bad advice will cost him alot of $$$. It could cost him his career and his long term health. He may earn more by having a longer career by resting, getting healthy, and drafted lower, than by screwing screwing up his knee trying for a higher draft position.
I’ve watched this same situation play out across the country in my career as an Athletic Trainer.
Athletes, and sometimes their handlers, do things like this to hurt their careers. Mishandling of even minor injuries adds up to major problems years down the road. This is why the plight of former players’ health has become the major issue it has.

A major reason so many former players are physically destroyed is because players and management fail to realize the significance of handling injuries appropriately. Instead of treating injured players, they teased or belittle or punish injured players into playing hurt. Thus shortening careers and significantly reducing a player’s earning potential.
Based on the logic on display during the lockout, this type of thing will continue to happen.
What a shame.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is what you call posturing. Bowers is a top 10 talent who suffered an injury at the absolute worst time. NFL GMs know a bargain when they see one and they will try to badmouth Bowers out of the 1st and even the 2nd rounds if possible. I bet that he still goes in the first round, probably just not the top 10 or 15 picks.

That’s exactly what a team would say in the last half of the first round whether they were interested or not.

Saying that makes other teams wonder if they’d be worthy of a top pick whether they are lying or not. You can’t believe anything that comes out of a scouts mouth during this time of year.

it isn’t the agents fault… a player of Bowers’ caliber and rep (possible top 10 pick) is pretty much forced to host a pro-day. if he didn’t that woudl send his stock plummeting too because everyoen woudl know that there is a reason behind it… dude was in a lose-lose situation…

he is probably worth a second round pick for a team deep enough to be able to take a risk…. (ala Thurman Thomas back in the day)…

Someone will still take him high and if there is a rookie wage scale I doubt he cost himself millons. He’ll still be a top 16 pick, so he made the right choice to come out.
