I’ve been talking about the whole universe of criticism, including blog commenters. Apparently you and king3319 are just talking about sports reporters, which puts a different spin on it. Yes, sports reporters should be capable of evaluating Newton on more substantive issues than race–although they, too, have demonstrated racial bias in years past.

Now rich … try surfing in my shoes a while. Nearly 80 comments and king3319 jumped on mine to call ridiculous. And from my perspective, it did seem a no brainer to say that some people criticizing Cam might have some racial bias. But that happens to me a lot. I’ve had guys ignore 10 comments saying exactly what mine said, only to call out mine. Then you jump in out of the blue to tell me: “get over yourself and your intellect. There are other individuals here that are intelligent as well and some may disagree with you.”

king3319 is the one who called me ridiculous. You then jumped in without provocation and told me to get over myself when I’ve never said anything to you. Nah, you don’t have a problem with women on a football blog. That’s why you’ve never noticed those arguments you’re talking about have been me defending myself from unprovoked attackers like you. Im not speaking for King but i feel he meant the talking heads on t.v not every single solitary person on the planet. As does Moon he is talking about the people on t.v and radio not whoever decides to respond to such reports…..i personally believe its ridiculous to think the talking heads are anything but objectionable if you beleive some or even 1 is racist then i would have to agree to disagree.

List me any other NFL player who has been successful and WORTH a top 5 pick in the draft who has the personal baggage Cam’s coming in with? White, black or whatever – tell me one.

The thefts, being shopped by his father, again more stories of theft at Auburn (McShay mentioned an x-box story on the radio Friday) , his comments about being an icon etc.

Show me another athlete from college, regardless of color who has then become a huge hit/star/stud in the NFL.

I will agree that he is the best physical specimen at QB this year and would be in most years, but watch his highlight reels and try to feel confident that it translates to the NFL. He can scramble and his passing highlights look more like receiver highlights than QB. I see a contract holdout in his future if there aren’t rookie salary caps in place. I see an ego that resonates locker room discontent. I see an arm that has strength with suspect accuracy. I see an offense that was simple and didn’t offer a lot of decision making evidence or looking off safeties or other diversion tactics. I see a lot of shotgun and mot much from under center. He has good speed (4.58, we’ll call it a 4.6) matched with his build and size will be dangerous for 10 to 15 yard chunks until teams just play him for containment and the run. Too many dangers if he can’t develop an NFL passing game. Honestly, I don’t want him and that from a QB-less bengals fan. I actually think Ponder may end up being the best QB from this draft when we look back at it 4 or 5 years from now. Sorry, not a good QB class at all. If Luck would have came out, it would have had a guy worthy of an early first round draft status. I think Cam is a late first rounder because of the risk and project labels that I’m giving him.

I’m sure Nolan and I share many of the same sources and I’ve heard the same things about Newton. I’ve also heard them about Ryan Mallett. As Nolan pointed out, we all heard them about Jimmy Clausen, J.P. Losman and many others as well.

Warren wants to pick the one black football player out of that mix and make a big deal out of it.

Warren, that shows that you’re actually the racist, not Nolan and not anyone else who has spent time gathering that information.

In my business you occasionally run into people like Warren Moon, both white and black and it’s literally the same thing every time…

As for this whole story, its really quite obnoxious of Moon to think this is racial against Newton. The guy has a checkered past and has skills that do not quite translate perfectly to the NFL. I would give pause before drafting and giving this guy millions also. Tebow and Clausen are recent perfect examples of white QB’s who have gone through this same type of questioning, and for blatantly obvious legitimate reasons so far. If Newton can go out and change peoples thinking with his play and his demeanor than so be it, but as for now the criticism is warranted.

Hey while you are making that argument there are far more white 1st round busts than there ever wil be black. More players mean more chances to to be white I mean right. Take a look at where black QB’s go and what the team does to improve the talent around them. Mcanbb was in Philly 9 years before he got a top shelf WR. Jason Campbell 6 OC in 7 years. Hell, look at the Vikings Favre’s first season with them was a 1 game improvement over T-Jack. in the regular season and the playoffs. ONE GAME! And that was Jackson’s 2nd season as a pro first as a starter.

Win a Heisman? Pretty sure that happens every year.

Win a National Championship? Ditto.

Manage to retain his eligibility despite overwhelming evidence that his family extorted a huge cash payment in exchange for his services?
