Jamaal Charles considers running track if lockout lasts long

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles says that if the NFL owners lock out the players for much longer, he’ll try to find a new source of income by running track professionally.

Charles told the Beaumont Enterprise that if the lockout drags on, he’d “just travel and run track.”

Although he couldn’t make nearly as much money running track as he can playing football, it is reasonable to think he could make some money doing it. He noted this week that he was an All-American track runner at Texas before turning his attention full-time to football.

“I won state in high school,” Charles said. “I went to a couple of Junior Olympics. My freshman year I was All-American in the 100 and the 200 and the 400 x 100 so I felt if I chose another sport it’d be track.”

If the lockout lasts long enough, Charles will choose that other sport.
