Madden cover tournament down to Elite Eight

With not much else going on in the NFL, the folks at EA Sports made a wise decision to have a bracket-style fan vote to determine who will be on the cover of this year’s Madden game. That voting has drawn plenty of attention for the game, and now we’re down to eight remaining candidates.

The eight who advanced in last week’s round of voting are Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Patriots running back Danny Woodhead, Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles, Browns running back Peyton Hillis, Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis.

This week, fans can cast votes in four “competitions” between players: Rodgers vs. Woodhead, Charles vs. Hillis, Brees vs. Peterson and Vick vs. Willis.

The winner — and victim of this year’s Madden cover curse — will be announced during the last week of April.

  1. Danny Woodhead is interesting. The little guy is going to have a hard enough time staying on the field, I hope the curse doesn’t get him if he wins. LOL. I don’t believe in curses – just the Sports Illustrated one……. 😉

    Rodgers has enough endorsements. I’d personally like to see Woodhead, Charles, Willis or Hillis.

  2. Thing is rigged. I don’t know of one Packer fan voting FOR Rodgers to be on the cover.

  3. God, I hope Woodhead wins…. lol I’m not a fan of the Madden games, but I will absolutely buy it if he wins.

  4. The only people voting on this are 13 year old black males and 34 year old white males, so the final will probably be Vick vs Hillis.

  5. Have Rodgers grow back the greasy hair and the failed porn star ‘stache and market it as the “Remember the 70’s?” retro edition.

  6. as a niners fan i love Willis but i kind of hope he doesn’t win, don’t want that curse. i would love to see Woodhead or Hillis get it though, even though i like those guys.

  7. I’d vote Charles…its not his fault he only touches the ball 14 times a game…the guy is a freaking animal and the coach wants to constantly hand the ball to the slow guy. How do you only hand a 4.6yd/carry guy the rock 41% of the time??

    Idiot coach.

  8. If Vick wins this,, we better not trade Kold.. hope andy reid is supersticious as well as superpredictible.

    && northeastern31 ///cracked me up.
    my buddy has a mini vick jersey for his dog.. is that wrong?

  9. @Deb

    You should be glad Hines Ward isn’t in it because he had yet another average season. 755yds/5tds…not to mention his average was only 12.8yds/rec and his YAC was only 4.4yds/rec. Really a ho-hum performance by anyone’s standards. Now if you start taking stats on post-whistle cheap-shots, then yeah…he should totally be the poster-boy for the ideal WR.

  10. Should have been Clay Matthews of Green Bay. They won the SB, and Matthews has the “it” factor. He’s wildly popular on top of being a very good player on the SB champ.

    As a Pats fan, Woodhead is a shocking finalist for something like this.

  11. Lets all just focus on a “Vote for the Worst” idea. Hillis has another 20 games in him max for his career. (see Brandon Jacobs)
    Give him something to show his kids and lets see if EA sports really allows Peyton HIllis to be the face of Madden 2012.

  12. Why are people still voting for Drew Brees? Every time this guy opens his mouth about the lockout I want to punch him in the face.

    It will/should be Rodgers. I would vote for Charles, but the guy is such a twig. Add the Madden Curse to his already thin stature and he will surely break some body part.

  13. 10 more bucks says if (when) vick wins it, he’ll find some way to “no-show” it up and get out of it, and the #2 vote getter will be on the cover.

  14. Brady tosses a screen pass to Woodhead, and Woodhead breaks a tackle. And Another and he could be gone. 50…40… to the 30… and Woodhead tears his ACL and MCL while fumbling the football. oh dur.

  15. By all means, give it to Vick. Just end the thing and hand it to him. Things will take care of themselves, and PETA, not to mention millions of others who love and respect animals, will have the last laugh.

  16. @bluefan204

    Wishing harm on someone and then saying you will laugh does not make you any better then Vick was. Seriously when will you get that? For anyone to take you seriously you need to grow some maturity first. And just so you know. There are more Vick supporters then haters. Just accept it. If Vick screws up then OK. But damn at least wait for him to screw up before you bash the man who was already punished for his last crime when others get off scot free!!!

  17. @angrycorgi …

    Apparently you don’t understand Hines’s role in Pittsburgh’s offense. He’s not the go-to guy to run the length of the field at his age. But in the right situation, he’s money.

    As for those cheap shots … aw, honey, the reason you boys gripe about Hines is the same reason you gripe about me: He hits back 😉

  18. COME ON WHITE RUNNING BACKS!

    but id love to see little woodhead win, but hillis is a great power back.

  19. someone want to remind me how this curse works again?

    Drew Brees 2010 season:

    2nd in TDs
    3rd in yards
    1st in completion percentage

    most of you just wish your QB was cursed like Drew Brees.

    Wishing harm < Smashing dogs heads against concrete walls because of a illegal gambling operation based on death.

    I could see how that would be confusing.

    Who doesn't yuck it up when the dumpster juice segment starts to moralize?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Since 4.6 ypc is still respectable and the Chiefs don’t want another Larry Johnson style break down, I’d say they’re doing the right thing by keeping Charles’ carries low for now until they’re ready to make a real championship run. Why burn him out for nothing?
    No division title and a first round playoff loss to the worst playoff qualifier in history?
    I am not sure what strange god you pray to, but living a life where knowingly infecting women with herpes, smoking dope and running an interstate illicit dogfighting ring and inhumanely torturing dogs to death that “don’t perform to expectations” is never going to be equated to laughing at one who willingly engaged in such behaviour having his overrated career ended on the gridiron a la Joe Thiesman style.
    Just accept it. If Vick screws up then OK. But damn at least wait for him to screw up before you bash the man who was already punished for his last crime when others get off scot free!!!
    Three things:
    The “last crime” Dawgkilla admitted to was torturing eight dogs to death in some of the most inhumane methods his sick mind could dream up. To date, he has not served a single day in prison for those crimes, so he has hardly been “punished” for them. He should be serving 40 years in state custody for them.
    “Others” who get off “scot free” have nothing whatsoever to do with any time Dawgkilla served or should be serving. Silly comments like that make me question what kind of neighbourhood you were brough up in. It sounds like you received the majority of your “education” on the street rather than a classroom. Nobody with any worth whatsoever really cares about distorted concepts of ghetto justice when the vast mojority of people would prefer to see ALL criminals locked up for very long periods of time, not just your beloved Dawgkilla.
    People that support Dawgkilla in light of his crimes are just as sick and morally bankrupt as he is. No wonder North American society is going to hell in a handbasket.
  24. This whole thing is a giant crock.
    We all know EA is having this “cover tournament” so that they can get away with putting that scumbag Michael Vick on the cover.. now they can just claim that “the fans wanted it.”
    give me a break.
  25. Either Vick or Hillis, nobody else deserves it, especially Rodgers, his team carried him the whole year.
    He was injured, couldn’t win his division and lost to the Seahawks in the playoffs.
  27. You gotta love the people whose candidate from the team they support has already been ousted- and then they try to act like they’re glad that that person is out of the running so they won’t be a victim of said curse.
    Sour grapes.
  28. So, if Vick doesn’t get the cover I suppose we’ll have to listen to Warren Moon bitterly complain it’s all racism.
  29. oh i forgot… Drew Brees and his 404 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs and 65% completion lost that game to Seattle.
    again, most of you wish your QB was cursed like Drew Brees.
