Vrabel confirms arrest, calls it a “misunderstanding”

VrabelMugshot

We’ve obtained via agent Neil Cornrich a statement on behalf of Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel, who was arrested today for theft at the Belterra casino in Indiana.

Said Vrabel, via Cornrich:  “It was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and I take full responsibility for the miscommunication.  I feel comfortable that after talking with the appropriate parties, we will resolve this matter.”

Details remain sketchy regarding the nature of the alleged theft.

Always shenanigans at the Pick-A-Number table…

“I feel comfortable that after talking with the appropriate parties, we will resolve this matter.”

i.e. they accepted the payoff so you guys won’t hear anything more about this.

I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of casinos in Indiana.

Looks like a criminal to me

  6. tomwill21 says: Apr 4, 2011 4:16 PM

How do you “misunderstand” stealing? “I’m sorry sir, I thought that was my $600 tip.”

  7. skoobyfl says: Apr 4, 2011 4:16 PM

How many misunderstandings will the NFLPA allow to happen before realizing that they’re representing what amounts to the largest group of self-serving wealthy children in the world ?

These guys couldn’t find anything but the football field, a bar & a toilet during their college days.

  8. mypasswordisquitesecure says: Apr 4, 2011 4:20 PM

I didn’t understand how many security cameras they would have in the facility. I thought I understood just about everything about surreptitious recording after all those years with Coach B!

What’s so hard to understand about casinos in Indiana? Most of them are southeastern Indiana, and attract Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis, etc. Now that casinos have been legalized in Ohio, they’re going to be hurting.

  10. lunarpie says: Apr 4, 2011 4:25 PM

He most likely stole some money from the casino and thinks its okay because they’ve stolen tons from other people. Jailbait, oh wait he’s a professional athlete. They don’t go to jail…

  11. tony420 says: Apr 4, 2011 4:29 PM

That’s what they all say Mike.

  12. bingocostello says: Apr 4, 2011 4:31 PM

    did he take the flatscreen?

  13. scudbot says: Apr 4, 2011 4:31 PM

Vrabel mistook someone else’s purse for his and walked out. Only when he was confronted did he realize he had made a mistake. The aggrieved party also realizes that now after receiving the fat envelope.

  14. rovibe says: Apr 4, 2011 4:32 PM

    Yeah, a ‘misunderstanding’…

As in, he misunderstood that stealing is illegal.

  15. berniemadoffsides says: Apr 4, 2011 4:33 PM

    “Vrabel’s Eleven”….?

  16. thefiesty1 says: Apr 4, 2011 4:33 PM

Yeah, right! These players better hope the owners allow them to get back to work soon or they’ll all be in trouble. Idle hands…….

  17. ampats says: Apr 4, 2011 4:34 PM

I find it interesting that ESPN that usually doesn’t report stories about NFL players till days/weeks after it has been “reported” by PFT but reported on this story twice during the NFL LIVE segment.

Maybe has something to do with his position on the NFLPA ?

  18. bradjames33160 says: Apr 4, 2011 4:36 PM

Vrabel, why are you stealing like a Damascus beggar? Could it be that players are hurting from the lockout already. Solidarity is what happened in Poland in the late 80s when they wanted to be free of the Soviets. You, and all your cohorts are simply a mockery. Shut up and get back to the table before you go to Leavenworth like Mike Vick

  19. JimmySmith says: Apr 4, 2011 4:39 PM

Maybe he was under the impression that Matt Walsh was handling the videotaping and thought no one would see it, much like the Patriot’s tape.

There are several in Indiana along the border with the Ohio River. From small towns like this to Louisville and then Evansville, Indiana. They even have a few horse tracks with casinos in the state.

  21. patriotsdefense says: Apr 4, 2011 4:45 PM

thats the same thing mike vrabel told kurt warren when he hit him in the facemask to force the TY LAW pick 6 in Super Bowl XXXVI. No flag? what? play stands? it was just a “misunderstanding”? What?

  22. angrycorgi says: Apr 4, 2011 4:45 PM

You are pretending that lawyers have scruples?

  23. deadeye says: Apr 4, 2011 4:46 PM

It was just a misunderstanding. You see he thought the other person said “Please steal this item” when in fact they said “Please don’t steal this item”. I’m confident, as is Vrabel, that it will get resolved soon. It was just a big silly misunderstanding.

  24. stairwayto7 says: Apr 4, 2011 4:47 PM

4 game suspension Mr.Goodell! You must be fair and HE GOT ARRESTED!!!

  25. rpiotr01 says: Apr 4, 2011 4:48 PM

Vrabel’s been around a while, always seemed to have his head on straight. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until more info comes out.

  26. thetooloftools says: Apr 4, 2011 4:49 PM

What, he was caught cheating in “pin the tail on the cow”?

  27. angrycorgi says: Apr 4, 2011 4:51 PM

He misunderstood what the “full service” price was.

  28. ArtModellsPimp says: Apr 4, 2011 4:52 PM

Indiana should have stuck with corn. Nobody steals corn…

  29. 44kyle says: Apr 4, 2011 4:54 PM

Is it just coincidence that so many players have run-ins with the law, whether convicted or not? I’ve had exactly ZERO such incidents in my life and I’ll bet that’s typical of the readers of PFT. I’m a lot older than Vrabel too. How do they do it? I’d think their fame would make them less likely to be arrested.

  30. nokoolaidcowboy says: Apr 4, 2011 4:55 PM

So this crime wave we’ve seen in the NFL the last couple of days, it’s just boredom, right? All the kiddies rely on these guys as their idols.
It’ll all go back to normal soon.

    Same song and dance

  32. ar1888 says: Apr 4, 2011 5:00 PM

A big misunderstanding, thats just what Lawence Taylor said both times he was arrested.

  33. touchdownroddywhite says: Apr 4, 2011 5:00 PM

    @Deb -

They’re really lame. Can’t even play real cards unless you drive to a river boat. Don’t know about anybody else, but this is one guy who’s not falling for “electronic blackjack”.

  34. massappeal12345 says: Apr 4, 2011 5:05 PM

He just wants to fit right in with the current Ohio State alumni…..and coaches…..and A.D.

A misunderstanding – I misunderstood that I had to pay for stuff at the deli.

  39. tomwill21 says: Apr 4, 2011 5:14 PM

The casino miscommunicated that thief of any kind is at least a class D felony in Indiana. LOL

  40. mick730 says: Apr 4, 2011 5:16 PM

Misunderstanding, huh? I guess that’s what we all should consider to be the case when you guys thought a bunch of spoiled, pampered, overpaid neanderthals, with a collective rap sheet as long as a football field were “partners” in the National Football League.

  41. chatham10 says: Apr 4, 2011 5:18 PM

His Cobra insurance payment was due and he was a little short.

  42. skylark70455 says: Apr 4, 2011 5:22 PM

Hmmmm… sounds like Belichick was videotaping, and relaying the opposing players hands to Vrabel via radio.

I guess the casino guys take that a little more seriously than Roger Goodell?

So….. AAAAALLLLL a misunderstanding. Coach and Mikey just interpreted a casino rule incorrectly. Move along now….

What a bunch of grumps who comment on here.

I miss the days when we let things slide for athletes. After 40 hours a week behind a desk I go watch these guys for entertainment, not you clowns at your desk doing Accounting. They entertain us so I’m ok giving them a pass on a MINOR deal like this.

Seems like a lot of jealousy going on, but keep hiding behind your safe computer.

  47. canadianvikingfaniii says: Apr 4, 2011 5:32 PM

I just wanted to borrow the money, I was going to pay it back. It was all just a big misunderstanding. Just like Aqib, he didn’t mean to shoot at that guy, and Dez Bryant didn’t mean to not pay for his jewlery. Take pitty on us, we are all just slaves to the owners and the league.

Once again a massive stretch by jimmy to try to be clever vis a vis something that happened 4 years ago.
Do you hang on to women you have dated who dumped you the way you hang on to this and your trolling every time the word “Viking” is mentioned on this site??????? I bet the local cops know you by name if you do. You and foozie and your pathetic 4 year old jokes. The sad thing is jimmy that you (and even foozie) sometimes have some good intelligent things to say but they are overshadowed by your strange obsessions.

Vrabel is a salty and sarcastic MF who has been know to talk back a little even to BB and I can see where he might not exactly be politically correct if confronted for something. Which all cops just LOVE…guys who talk back. I would bet he didn’t help himself.

  49. eagleswin says: Apr 4, 2011 8:19 PM

I would like to point out that taking full responsibility for a misunderstanding is different than taking full responsibility for a felony. One is a nice sound byte that means you admit nothing, and the other is an actual admission of responsibility for a crime.

  50. steeelfann says: Apr 4, 2011 8:54 PM

What is it about Ohio State players any way.

Maybe he was just trying to keep the gambling/arrest thing going ala Art Schlichter?

    Remember Vrabel, Wake and bake!

  51. Deb says: Apr 4, 2011 8:54 PM

    @dexterismyhero & touchdownroddywhite …

Makes me sad that there are casinos in America’s heartland :( Seems like what’s in Vegas (and AC) should stay in Vegas ;)
