i've always been a fan up palmer in cincy even though i have never been a USC fan in the slightest. he's had some rough times over the years playing for the bengals but has proven to me with multiple great seasons that he is a very good QB and also tough as nails. i am with a lot of other people who think that a change of scenery will rejuvenate his career and he could be a valuable starter for another five years. since the day he said he wouldn't be playing for the bengals again i have thought he would be a perfect fit for the vikings. another retread yes, but with the weapons they already have palmer could step right in and make the offense very good. this would also be great for ponder to sit behind palmer for a few years and learn...although ponder is already a 5th year senior and is 'supposed' to be pro ready. anyway, don't see it happening but i think it would be great for both sides if the vikings can better their Oline scheme and protect him.
as far as value, its tough because palmer is a multiple year pro-bowler and he really is still in his prime right now. but he is probably already starting to decline and it is a matter of how rapidly that happens. no way i give up a first for him, maybe a late second or early third, especially considering the bengals other option is nothing.

This is a bit tongue in cheek, but when is the last time a post was written by PFT that didn’t have a link to some reporter that was talking about a story? It must be fun just to sit around reading other people’s stuff then repeating it with an opinion about what they say. Instead of you know, finding scoops originally.
***************************************
why complain about the stories? PFT is making it easy for the fans to get national/regional stories in one place. for example, how often am i going to look up the miami local sports section? zero, i live up north. PFT did they leg work for us. they are giving credit to the original reporter as well...
thereisalwaysnextyear, ever heard the expression "never look a gift horse in the mouth." look it up buddy.

anyway, i think carson is worth a 2nd rounder. if the bengals want a 1st, they need to give up a pick. the fact is there is a shortage of quality QB's in the league. the bengals got some leverage.

It doesn't make any difference what Carson wants or Mike Brown wants or what any other team wants. His wife is behind this whole mess because she got her feelings hurt when he got booed in a game. She will be making the decision here, I'm convinced of that. Hopefully he'll wind up in NY or Philly and she'll really hear boos. The Bengals fans and press have been kind to him considering his performances.

I'm just not high on Taylor. Best case scenario would be to trade down and grab Mallet while adding a second round pick. If Bulger can be added for a veteran presence, I'm all for it.

He is going to screw them royaly, if they draft a qb in the first round and he shows up….Then they will be forced to release him and get nothing….

==============

so what if he reports after the Bengals draft a QB? That's a win for Cincinnati.. the new QB gets to sit for awhile. Big deal.

Surely it doesn't do anything CLOSE to forcing the Bengals to release him.

If anything that scenario may actually HELP the Bengals in the long run.

Arizona should trade their #38 overall for Palmer. And Cincinnati should accept.

The Cardinals are in most desperate need of a competent pocket passer. Someone that Whisenhunt can work with, has work ethic and a veteran team. And they have to make Fitzgerald happy this season.

Plus, Palmer wants to go back west. Arizona is a 90 minute flight from LA, it's good weather and no more Steelers and Ravens defense 4 times a year. Tell me that won't rejuvenate his career like when Warner got away from New York. Remember, Warner was ages 34-38 in his pretty decent 5-year contribution to that franchise. To say Palmer is over the hill at age 30 is ridiculous.

Palmer is ideal to work with Whisenhunt.

A bust is a bust is a bust, You can look at first round picks for the entire NFL over the last 20 years and I would be willing to be that the majority of there first round picks are bust. The Bengals have been horrible draftees since Mike Brown has run the team, there is no arguing that! While Mike Brown is not a Great Football mind by any stretch is an extremely smart individual. The guy fought the IRS and won how many people can say that? That said no, Mike Brown wants Carson Palmer to be the father of his children, there is no way in he'll he will trade Palmer for less than a first rounder, or a package of
Picks, Brown may not even trade Palmer, just to make a point. I would put my money on Palmer retiring, because at the end of the day it's always Mike's way.

If I were Miami, I’d call Marvin Lewis the second the lockout ends and say you have 1-hour to convince Mike Brown or this offer is off the table; Miami’s 1st rounder (15th overall) for Carson Palmer and Cincinnatti’s 2nd Rounder (35th overall). Moving up 20 spots into the first round for an expensive, over-30 QB that won’t ever play for them again, is pretty good value.

--------------------------------------------------

I'd counter that offer with one of these two:

Carson for Miami's 2nd and 3rd this year (if they have those picks, I'm too lazy to look it up).

or

Carson and Cincinnati's 3rd rounder for Miami's 1st round pick.

Carson and a second round pick is just too valuable to give up at this point. The Bengals need to hang on to their second rounder because that's where they'll probably be picking a QB.

JackBasset, you want to talk about first round bust, how about, Ted Ginn, Jamar Fletcher, John Avery, Yatil Green is that enough?
____

Didn't mean to offend you, Bengal fan. That said, the 4 names I mentioned were drafted #1, #3, #4 and #6. The ones you mentioned were drafted #9, #15, #26, and #29. Surely, the 4 Bengals were bigger busts, weren't they? A few years ago CNNSI listed the top 20 draft busts in the last 20 years. Five Bengals, one Dolphin.
JackBasset, you want to talk about first round bust, how about, Ted Ginn, Jamar Fletcher, John Avery, Yatil Green is that enough?
____

Didn’t mean to offend you, Bengal fan. That said, the 4 names I mentioned were drafted #1, #3, #4 and #6. The ones you mentioned were drafted #9, #15, #26, and #29. Surely, the 4 Bengals were bigger busts, weren’t they? A few years ago CNNSI listed the top 20 draft busts in the last 20 years. Five Bengals, one Dolphin. Not a fan of either team but I’d take the Fins drafting prowess over the Bungals.

“”Miami’s 1st rounder (15th overall) for Carson Palmer and Cincinnatti’s 2nd Rounder (35th overall). Moving up 20 spots into the first round for an expensive, over-30 QB that won’t ever play for them again, is pretty good value.”"

Agree 100%, it is basically like getting a mid-high 2nd rounder for him.

Take that offer or Miami’s 2nd rounder straight up.

******

That would be great if Miami had a 2nd rounder. Unfortunately they don't. Denver has it from the Marshal trade.

I like the idea of getting Palmer for our first, but then getting their 2nd rounder in return.

Moving down 20 spots and getting a potential star QB in return is a good gamble to take in my opinion. "Potential" is the key word though.

JackBasset, you want to talk about first round bust, how about, Ted Ginn, Jamar Fletcher, John Avery, Yatil Green is that enough? Bottom line it's not alwYs the players fault. Klingler, Akili, Warrick, and Carter were all consesus top 10 picks when they came out, Klingler played behind one of the worst Olines in NFL history, Warrick was solid but never had a QB, and Carter blew his knee out on the fourth carry of his career. An unnamed coach told the Cincinnati Enquirer last year that out of all of Palmers INT's last year only 2 were completely Palmers fault. Ochocinco and TO both improvised more routes than they ran correctly last year, and the Bengals haven't had a good o-line since 2005. Palmer needs to go to a team with a good oline to be at his best. QB's are playing
Longer than ever so 31 not that old. Any team will have a tough time time getting Palmer, and I don't see any scenario where the Bengals trade him for less than a first rounder. Lots of teams need a QB, I'm sure someone will give Cincinnati what they want.

Of course Mike Browns isn't trading Palmer. That would probably help the team and when's the last time he did something like that. Let's instead hope Carson changes his mind and when he doesn't and his little brother has to start, we hope the fans can't tell. That's the Mike Brown way!

hey kaz -

Sounds like your shilling more for Mike Brown than Carson Palmer. Palmer doesn't care what he gets traded for. Mike Brown may be the only one in the NFL who thinks he's worth a RD1 pick at this point. He's got a $50 million contract and his production has being declining for 3 years despite have a couple of all-pro receivers.Even considering the shortage of experienced starting QB's, Palmer won't draw a RD1 pick in trade.

Look at it from this angle. Does he improve the team over Chad Henne?

The Answer is Maybe because its too close to call they are just too similar, I really don't see an improvement IMO. In other words Henne is a younger version of Palmer. Draft someone to compete with Henne!
