Christian Ponder won’t be attending medical re-check

Recently, CBSSports.com posted a list of the players who will be attending the medical re-check in Indianapolis.  One of the players who supposedly will make the trek to Indianapolis is Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Ponder has not been asked to return for the medical re-check.

Players who return to the site of the Scouting Combine for further evaluation have health issues that justify a closer look before the draft.  Ponder suffered a separated shoulder in 2009, and an elbow injury in 2010.

The fact that he won’t be going back to Indianapolis means that doctors felt no need to take a closer look at Ponder, who participated in the Scouting Combine and at his Pro Day workout.

This should help his draft stock.

I gotta tell ya, Ponder at 16 wouldn’t make me mad (or in a perfect world, trading down to 20-24 and taking him)

Either that or no one wants to draft him, anyway.

2011 has got to be one of the most unpredictable drafts ever. It’s going to be great to watch it unfold.

Ponder declined to attend. He was worried they might put him down.

I think the Bengals make a move back into the first round to get him. If they don’t get Gabbert at #4.

No going to get his medical situation cleared up may be a mistake. Most teams are pretty leery of draftees with a history of injuries. It will only drop his draft position. Second, third, fourth round? Yikes! But then again look what NE got in the 6th round. You just never know with some of these guys.

Steveincini has hit it dead on. The Benglals are gonna need capable west coast QB, and if Ponder really has moved back into the first round, that’s something they have to consider trying to do.

It doesn’t look like Gabbert is going to be there at 4.

Welcome to Cincy, Julio Jones (at 4).
