Why trade Palmer now? What do you get for it? NOTHING for 2011.

Due to the CBA issue players cannot be traded. Thus Palmer will only be available to trade once the CBA is resolved. More than likely that isn't going to happen until AFTER the draft. Thus Palmer cannot be traded for a 2011 draft pick. So there is absolutely no rush to explore this option. Especially since the Bengals really don't want to trade Palmer. They'd rather he return. The offense heated up the last few games once Ocho SelfishO was out of the lineup. Palmer had his best 2 games of the season throwing to Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell.

Mike Brown is playing this EXACTLY as it should be due to the handcuff of the CBA issue. You don't trade Palmer in 2011 since you get nothing that benefits for 2011, unless someone wants to swap a player who can contribute right away. A rarity in the NFL. You hold firm hoping Palmer blinks first. (See Pickens, Carl ; Ochocinco, Chad) If he doesn't then you explore the option of trading him, for a 2012 pick. Why help one of the other 31 NFL teams by trading them a possible piece to the puzzle when the compensation received wouldn't be acquired until the next year? Just wait and get the same compensation a year later. (I've even read that Palmer's value might increase next year, one year removed from a bad year and some might view his resolve against Brown as a leadership quality to be admired)

Mike Brown is like a child desperately clinging to an old toy. To his own detriment, nonetheless. Remember back when the idiot Skins tried to trade them a first rounder and another high pick for Chad Johnson a few years ago? Brown obviously has no concept of an accurate valuation of players. He's had chances to improve the organization through trades and he stubbornly refuses to do it. I feel bad for fans of that organization.

phinheads says: Apr 8, 2011 10:41 AM

this is good for the Phins. All of those losing seasons sucked the life outta that guy.

Yea since 2003 when Palmer was drafted by the Bengals, the Bengals have had 3 losing seasons 2007, 2008 & 2010. There record since 03 is 60-67-1

The Dolphins on the other hand have had 5 losing seasons in that same span, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 & 2010. With a record of 55-73 in that stretch. So I guess all the "Losing" in Miami would force Palmer to opt for another organization.

tatum064 Said:

"The secret plan is obvious. “Suck and get Luck” with the no. 1 pick next year….the irony would be for Luck to pull an Eli Manning and request a preferential trade not to go there."

Yea the Bengals would draft him and squat on his rights until he changed his mind. Bottom line is Mike Brown will not be forced into anything, he wont trade Carson Palmer, and he wouldn't trade Luck, or his rights so Andrew had better hope he doesnt get drafted by the Bengals because in Cincinnati, Mike always win's (except on the football field).

Folks, these so called NFL experts on NFL QB's are not so expert.
If I was an owner and I could get Carson Palmer for a #1 draft pick, I would be nutts not to trade. First of all, #1 picks have a bad habit of not working out, Jamarcus Russell, Alex Smith, et al. And Carson Palmer is a known, established QB. with at least 5 yrs left to play. A known established QB. The guy, the man who handles the ball 100% of every play in a football game. As a Dolphin fan, I would curl up and die if the Dolphins passed on Palmer. (if they had the chance). Talk about no brainer !!!

How do you think they will get a first round + for Palmer, 1 he isn't young, 2 he isnt all that good look at the #'s 3 who in there right mind would pay the guy what he wants when he will only be on a team for maybe 4 years at best and he is on the decline?

That was not ELI, that was his father.

And the reasoning was if he went to San Diego he would be playing Peyton several times a year battling maybe for playoffs each year.

Smart move, having him in a NFC team makes him play Peyton every other year or every 3 years. Unless they meet in a superbowl.

Mike Brown is so frustrating. I know nothing can happen until a new CBA, but come on man. There is no need to stubborn or bull headed here. Carson will retire and then you get nothing. I don’t care if it’s a third round pick, it beats a blank. I wish he would hire someone to run the show that actually has a clue on how to build a team.

As a life-long Bengals fan, I'd like to see Mike Brown take a shot to his ego and let Palmer go. You can't have a starting QB who hates the city he plays for. You can't have a starting QB demand to be let go because he dislikes the franchise, and then expect him to come back and effectively lead like a franchise QB. You certainly can't afford to sit on the player and get nothing. We expect Palmer to be gone, but I'm with Rosenthal when he says don't expect much until 2012.

Mike Brown, won't budge on moving Palmer out of Cinci. Just like the team won't budge out if last place.
As a Browns fan, I'm thankful Paul Brown founded the Browns. Then he founded the Been-gals so that Browns fans could feel better. Whenever things are bad in the Dawg Pound, I can always feel a little better knowing I'm not a Been-gals fan.
