I'm probably not the person to ask that surgery question since I've had 28. When docs say cancer, I say "Get it out now!" :) Didn't mean to imply I blamed Rice for their season. No one person is to blame for a team failure. Just saying he made a negative impression on me. And teams often overpay when they're desperate. Not having Rice contributed to the desperation that left them vulnerable to making a bad deal with Moss.

I'm not as familiar with how the Vikes run the team as you are ... but you have to admit you guys have a lot of animosity toward one another that may be clouding your thinking. It's a little different for me. Hate the Ravens, but respect them :)

Hold back a bit Deb... It hardly matters the exact circumstances that led to Big Ben's 4 game suspension. But keep in mind also, the Steelers let Ben know enough was enough and it was time for a lifestyle change or they would move on (they moved on from Holmes and didn't miss a beat). That tells you a little something about the management of the Steelers and their brand. And geez, no suprise they were in the Super Bowl.

With Rice, he had doctors tell him it would heal on its own. The doctor was wrong, it happens. Who wants to have surgery? The reason he stayed away from mini camps was that the vikes weren't giving him an extension. Last year Rice made 800 thousand, meanwhile they take a flier on Randy Moss on the twilight of his career and give away a 3rd rounder. Moss was scheduled to make 6.4 million and the vikes were obligated to pay the whole thing but luckily the Titans picked him up.

After Rice saw that he decided to never play for the vikes again and I don't blame him. It was a dumb management decision. But so was letting Favre do whatever he wanted and AP. To throw all the blame on one guy when a doctor gave him bad advice...

Well, there was a whole culture in vikeland dedicated to entitlement thinking. Rice was hardly the poster boy and the only reason vike fans are angry is that they'd been told a million times (and Jimmy keeps reminding them) that the "all in" management style wouldn't work and would lead to huge problems.

That's a valid point. Still, it's not about how the team reacted to Rice's absence, but whether he let down his team.

Ben's situation was different since he didn't choose to miss those four games. But while the evidence shows he was innocent of the accusation, if he'd been acting like a responsible adult, he wouldn't have been in that situation. So I think he did let down our team. But he apologized profusely to his teammates and the fans, and hired a private QB coach to work with him during the suspension to ensure he'd be game-ready on his return. Did Rice ever indicate any regret for the issues he'd caused his teammates?

Why is there an assumption Rice will leave via free agency?

He told Frazier he wanted to return; it's his agent that made the statement about looking at what's out there. Rice understanably wants to know what the Vikings plan to do about the QB position. They obviously want to address the QB situation as well.

Haha he's taking the "Minnesota Nice" stance. Definitely would love to have Rice back. We've put up with multiple injuries and have been very patient with him. With that said, if he's looking for a giant contract...I wish him luck in the future. The Vikes need cap space to re-sign the more reliable vets. He's got all the talent you want from a No. 1...just cant stay healthy.

I don't see anything that Jimmy said that was untrue. The vikes were in the cellar, last place. They don't have a QB and just picking up a random guy isn't going to help the franchise.

Reminds me of an old saying, hate the message, not the messenger.

As far as Rice is concerned, doctors told him he didn't need the surgery. During the offseason it wasn't just Rice with a lackadaisical attitude, AP took days off to celebrate his own greatness, Favre did his drama queen routine and waited till the last minute to have his surgery...

Seems to me there was just a culture of entitlement that was bred by bad management. When this is brought up, vike fans get angry and lash out at the person pointing this out. I'm sure I'll receive the hate for this post.

And Deb, I believe you're a fan of the Steelers? Weren't they without their QB for the first 4 games? They didn't make excuses, the motto was next man up.

The problem with the vikes is they just can't man up.

He waited all the way to the end of training camp to get surgery when he could have taken care of it the week after not trying for the ill advised Brett Favre INT against the Saints when the week prior against the Cowboys he cut back to the middle on the same exact play for a TD.

I don’t know if losing Rice is that big of deal. I wouldn’t pay too much for him. Because he didn’t get his surgery Favre didn’t have his go to guy, defenses played close, Peterson had too many men up close, they traded first for Camarillo, then for Moss.
Thanks for taking care of that in the off season.

thing to consider: His best year happened to be Brett Favres best statistcal year of his careeer. The other years he had a combo of Frerotte, Jackson, Webb, Rosenfels etc throwing him the ball. His true skill are somewhere in between. Hes probably a 800 yd 7 TD type of guy. Not bad, but not elite either.
Also, I will accept AIDS if it means that JimmySmith can longer post on this website. He/She/It would actually die, if it weren’t Viking news.

count me in for AIDS too. Anything to shut Jimmy up. I have been reading his pathetic blogs for far too long. He is such a closet vikes fan because he only comments on Vikes stories. Go Vikes!!!!

Jimmysmith…. you are such a predictable dolt. Have you considered a more original approach?

As a Vikings fan, I really don’t care if he leaves. I question his “Randy Moss” type attitude. His putting off his surgery for months was worthy of Turd status.
Sid…… you are a turd.
--------------------
There was a time when I liked Sidney Rice, but since putting off the surgery and this whole diva persona, I could care less if he left. He'll just get injured again.
