Veterans should just pretend to be retired (tears at press conferences help) and then workout at the local high school while sending out anonymous press releases about your waffling decision to return to the NFL. No worries, the teams will come fetch them via a private jet and a personal entourage soon enough near the end of training camp. You might even get a raise too.

This article nails it right on the head. Veteran players are being vaginas and don’t want to go to training camp. Training camp is incredibly important for a team to become a cohesive unit and for the younger players to show their stuff. Veterans who become complacent and automatically assume they are the incumbent at their position are NOT the players I’d want on my team. Coaches need the veterans to help mentor the younger player too. Selfish!

Of course some of the vets are hoping the lockout will extend until August. They just want to show up on opening day and get paid. Maybe if they can keep from settling, they’ll get to miss pre season games and STAY on vacation til the real games count and they start missing game checks.

Fantastic. The players even admit they want to give the fans a crappy product. The players seem to be quite savvy at winning the PR war with the league. All I hear is that tiny violin playing for millionaire athletes who are just too spoiled to be bothered with actually working most of the year. Simply amazing how spoiled both sides of this disagreement are. People who get hurt are the fans of course. Neither side even pretends to care one bit about the fans other than what is in our wallets

by delaying the new agreement, the owners have a lot to lose and the players have nothing to lose. the owners lose because free agency creates alot of buzz for the nfl and everyone pays attention to it.
the nfl wants people to pay attention the football year round. you cant make player trades for draft picks, which hurts the draft show a little, and really hurts teams. plus having free agency after the draft hurts the teams. the players dont start losing $$ till august and they dont have to go to training camp. the players have no problem dragging their feet and the owners would love to have settled this last month.

Tucker’s right on. Training camp for vets who stay in shape on their own in the offseason is a nuisance. They’ll use it to get their timing down and that’s about it. The players ranked 60-80 on the roster are the ones who are hurt because they don’t have an opportunity to earn a spot.

i think they should just replay the games from 2010 and charge fans to watch them. This way players don’t risk injury and owners still make money. Than go backwards each year 09, 08. For safety ofcourse.

So says the sub-par lineman who averaged 6 games a year for 7 years with 5 different teams.

His comments seem to support the likes of a lazy lineman who’s not interested in winning or establishing a legacy…and he didn’t.

I’m merely days away from writing off the NFL for the year. I’ve spent WAY too much time and money on my team for them to treat the fans this way. Maybe a steady diet of NCAA, AFL and CFL will keep me satisfied.

What other job can you work 4 months a year, get paid if you can’t play because of injury and then complain about having to show up to the office for a couple of days each every other quarter of the year to attend some meetings, lift weights and exercise with your team.

I mean seriously how do these guys put up with these working conditions and some of them only make 300K a year for god’s sake! Before that these same poor guys had to go have their entire college experience paid for and play football at the same time!

Thank goodness they have a union to protect them from all this abuse!

Ross has been saying this for a while, and I think he’s right. The people who WANT this to get done immediately are the same guys that are thinking the UFL is an option…the lower-paid younger players.

It only means you get injured earlier in the season , rather than later….if youre an O-lineman, that also means youre QB might be injured earlier as well.
