Brinks trucks for TE? Seriously, on a map Green Bay and vikeland may appear close, but the kind of Tom-foolery that transpires out west with contracts doesn’t happen in Green Bay and never will.
---------------------------------------------

You mean like giving a 7 year, $52 million contract to a soon-to-be 30-year-old CB who had missed most of 3 of the last 4 seasons with injuries? Yeah, that would never happen in Green Bay.....

blackheld says: Apr 13, 2011 11:38 AM

Interesting that Finley gets all the ink, here. Brandon Pettigrew of the Lions broke all of Charlie Sanders’ Detroit receiving records at tight end last year, and no one ever heard of him.

Finley is very good, but he is also fragile, and given that he has trouble staying on the field, he might not even be the best TE in the NFC North. Remember the Vikings’ Visanthe Shancoe also plays there, and he and Pettigrew both deserve serious consideration. Shame about the Bears, huh?

____________

Pettigrew put up 722 yards with 4 TDs in 16 games.

Shiancoe put up 530 yards with 2 TDs in 16 games.

Finley put up 301 yards with 1 TD in 4 games.

Yeah, he's overrated. Simple fact is he is on the field and he's dominate. Yep, 24 years old, absolutely can't recover from his injury.

This is a really lame article. First, Finley is either going to get tagged or franchised depending on the year he has and that's talking 2 years from now. Then 3 years from now, either he's stayed healthy for a couple years and been the phenom us Packer fans and owners expect or he hits the bricks. No injury excuses or other bull...

Even then, TE's don't make crap, I think the top contract is 6 mil.

Boy this could take a total different turn if we want to talk about Packer fans! I could go on for days! #1 PROBLEM i have with "Packer Fans" is your hate for Brett Favre! I mean come on.. hate? This dude showed up to every game for 16 years! EVERY GAME! Then these fans say "he put us in bad situations all the time!" At least he put you in a situation! Try being a Lions fan for the last 16 years. Not knowing who was going to start at QB...wasting 4 to 6 years on USELESS QBs. You packer fans think you have the right to bi$ch? Get over yourself! A bunch of spoiled little cheese heads if you ask me.

If Barry Sanders was traded to the Packers. I would still root for Barry. In fact i wish he would have got traded to a team with a shot. I felt bad that he didn t get rewarded for his extreme talent.

That is my first problem with packer fans! Like i said i could go on for days!

Ya gotta love the "homerism" of the Pack fans. Say something that isn't 100% positive about a packer player and the rednecks can't wait to accuse you of "hating" on the packers. There is a reason why packer fans are sometimes said to be the #1 nfl fans of their team.......they could get hit over the head by a 2x4 by a packer player and would claim it was their own fault for being in the way. Nobody is "hating" on J. Finley....just stating the facts and the obvious, the guy has been injury prone. Most overrated player ever. He had one nice 10-game stretch and now people think he’s the best tight end in the league. Well, some people at least.

Thanks for the input Visanthe!

How did you know?

I think if you look at the numbers you’ll see that I probably had a 10-game stretch that was just as good as Finley’s.

If he is healthy all of 2011 he may lead the league in receptions. He is Rodgers favorite target and is Rodgers bailout guy when he has to get rid of the ball quickly.

Dude is ridiculous. Look at the game he had in the playoffs against the Cards in the epic shootout. May have some of the best hands in the NFL.

Greg Olson & Visanthe? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaah

Should be a 11 or 12 win season up in GB this year with a home playoff game or two. (ie. Easier road to the Super Bowl). Besides the fans that did not have seats want to attend in Indy on Goodalls dime this year.

Back in 1994 it took an injury to the Packers best player Sterling Sharpe for Brett Favre to reach to a higher potential.......I think the first part of this year, the same thing happened with Finley. It was too easy for Rodgers to stare him down in a pinch.

After Finley went down, it took a couple games to adjust, but Jennings, Jones and Nelson all put up career years because rodgers had to learn to spread the wealth and not Zero in on Finley.

He's a great piece to add to our receiver group, especially with Jones probably gone, Can the Packers win without him, Yes they proved that.

Do we want to have him? Yes as long as it's not at the risk of the locker room harmony or the Chemistry on the field.

Finely has the potential to be a great player, but he’s not there yet. Just because he has the tools, doesn’t make him the best.

Let us not forget at the beginning of last season Rodgers tried to force feed him the ball and Jennings was non existent. The Packers did not start playing better until Finely was gone.
*****************************************

You are right. But that's not on Finley. That shows just how much faith that Rodgers has in Finley. Finley was double and even triple covered, but Rodgers was STILL throwing him the ball. Finley's catch rate was very high despite this.

Top 10 NFL TEs IMO:

1.) Vernon Davis
2.) Antonio Gates
3.) Dallas Clark
4.) Jermichael Finley
5.) Rob Gronkowski
6.) Zach Miller (OAK)
7.) Tony Gonzalez
8.) Owen Daniels
9.) John Carlson
10.) Aaron Hernandez

Notice a few trends here?

First of all, these guys are rarely healthy, as they take so much punishment at the position due to their inability to avoid big hits.

Secondly, nary a single one on this list is an elite run-blocker. More and more of the prospects at this position are giant WRs more than they are mobile OTs. That is the trend in recent drafts - exploit the smaller, faster defensive players of recent years with huge TEs.

Interesting that Finley gets all the ink, here. Brandon Pettigrew of the Lions broke all of Charlie Sanders' Detroit receiving records at tight end last year, and no one ever heard of him.

Finley is very good, but he is also fragile, and given that he has trouble staying on the field, he might not even be the best TE in the NFC North. Remember the Vikings' Visanthe Shancoe also plays there, and he and Pettigrew both deserve serious consideration. Shame about the Bears, huh?

The Packers obviously wanted Quarless to be more productive last season, but unless he suddenly develops, Finley will get his money. Now all he has to do is stay healthy.

Wow you guys are reaching for articles this time of year!! I mean its bad enough we have to hear about Jen Sterger. Now you just making stuff up to get a story. I would love the Packers to get rid of Finely! Finely has the potential to be their biggest threat on the field. Go Ahead get rid of him! Detroit will walk all over these chumps this year! …right? lol

The Lions will be lucky to win 6 games again.

TT will lock him up. He's the Packers most dominate recieveing threat, he's young and Finley is a perfect example of why TT doesn't go big in free agency - so he can lock up young beasts like Trammon and soon Finley.

As for dudes saying this cat is overrated they clearly are either haters or don't watch a lot of Packer games when he plays. Injury prone for sure, but absolutely unstoppable when he's healthy. Unstoppable in the seem. He will be top 5 TE after next year.

He's a gifted athlete, best hands on the team. But the injury concern is real. How many guys come back completely, full speed ahead from knee injuries and a staph infection like Finley has had? Tom Brady did it but he doesn't need to move and cut like a receiving TE does.

The guy has had maturity issues but I think he's growing in that sense. Rodgers loves him, and he hasn't been shy about calling out anyone who isn't working hard enough. Finley has loads of talent but he absolutely has a lot to prove before they open the vault for him. I hope he's mature enough to understand that.

In order to be considered one of the best TE's in the league, he'll need one of the best QB's in the league to get him the ball. He's got that.
