Dominik: 5-6 quarterbacks could go in first round

M. Dominik

When Silva put five quarterbacks (not including Ryan Mallett) in his first mock draft, it looked pretty bold. So bold, in fact, that only three quarterbacks were first-rounders in his third mock draft.

Bucs G.M. Mark Dominik believes Silva was right the first time.

Dominik said on SIRIUS NFL Radio Thursday he believes 5-6 quarterbacks will be taken in the first round. Later in the day, Titans VP of player personnel Ruston Webster said he thought 4-5 quarterbacks would be taken, with teams possibly trading back into the end of the first round.

It’s important to keep in mind what Michael Lombardi said on NFL Network this week. The only words coming out of decision makers’ mouths this time of year involve misdirection.

The Bucs would benefit from 5-6 teams taking quarterbacks because they don’t need one, and they could possibly trade back from No. 20. So it can’t hurt for Dominik to throw his opinion out there.

We’d put the over/under on quarterbacks in the first round at four. In the end, this isn’t a great quarterback class and it doesn’t pass the smell test that so many of them would go so early.
