Getty ImagesIn an offseason full of troubling player news in the NFL, it’s nice to pass along a story from one of the vast majority of players that handle themselves with class.
Texans linebacker DeMeco Ryans announced Thursday he’s donating $300,000 to the University of Alabama to endow a scholarship. It will go to a football player studying in Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration.
“I have always wanted to do this since the day I left,” Ryans said in a statement released by the school. “The University of Alabama is such a special place to me, and I am honored to have the opportunity to endow a scholarship. I had a great time here, and I grew as a person here. This is a great time for me, and I am very excited.”
Ryans was a four-time Academic All-SEC and graduated cum laude in December 2005.

With all the Pac-Man Jones out thier its refreshing to see someone that actually gets it.
The overall perception of NFL players will improve if stories like this are covered more. When Dez was dominating the news cycle with his mess, NFL players we’re over in Africa doing charity work. Which got the most coverage? All players are not like Britt, Bryant, Talib, etc…..they are a small percentage. I’ve been saying it, start a good guy watch to balance the turd watch. The good guy watch would never have to be reset, it will go on all the time. Good job DeMeco!…….
would you even know how to read a balance sheet son?
this is the guy who should be negotiating with the owners not guys like vrabel who gets arrested for stealing.
Someone from the football team graduated from Alabama? That should be the headline!
Good for DeMeco…I love the positive stories. He sounds like a Renaissance man.
Ryans is living the “if only I had a million dollars…” fantasy, how freaking awesome.
classy move by a great guy.
