Packers team officials have discussed possibly building an indoor practice facility and a baseball stadium on the land around Lambeau Field, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

“We do think the area is ripe for development,” said Jason Wied, Packers vice president of administration and general counsel.

It doesn’t sound like the Packers will try to build some Patriots Place-like mall. Instead, they could go with an indoor practice faciliy, a baseball stadium and possibly a hotel. The idea would essentially be to create some revenue for the Packers they wouldn’t have to share with the rest of the league.

The planning sounds like it’s just at its infant stages and already has drawn a bit of criticism from the town’s rival newspaper. Michael Hunt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel wants to know if taxpayer money would be necessary and that some locals are wary of the idea.
