zn0rseman says: Apr 19, 2011 12:14 AM

Really the Vikings need two QB’s.

One rookie in round 1 or 2, like Mallet, Locker or Kaepernick, who can be a long-term solution at the position..
One veteran who has 2-4 years left in him as a quality starting option. That would include players like Palmer, Kolb and Rosenfels.
--------------------------

The only part I disagree on is Kolb. He will cost too much to bring in for a couple years, and has far more in him then 2-4 years. If they pay up for Kolb they should not look to draft a 1-2 round QB this year, they should plan on Kolb being the guy untill he proves otherwise and draft the best player available in other need positions.

Kolb now is what Locker, Mallet, or Dalton hope to be in 3-4 years. A quality QB who has learned the game is in ripe with potential to start now. You do not grab Kolb to keep the seat warm, he is the example of a 2nd rounder allowed to develop. It is time to see what he has.

It might have worked for the Manning brothers, but there are far more rookies that fail that were high draft picks than those that succeed.

A college offense is light years in difference to a pro style. Mostly what you see when you throw a QB to the wolves is a huge failure.

If the vikes had a good O-line it might work, then the game isn't so fast. But that O-line got Favre killed, one of the quickest release Qbs and a veteran at reading blitzes.

And you think a rookie is just going to step in? Good luck with that! And if that's the philosophy of the vikes at least you guys will get lots of shots to pick high rated Qbs in the draft.

Vikings fans, I have to warn you, if you get McNabb prepare to be driven mental by his ground ball habits.

When he joined the 'Skins, I was full of hope. I was used to only seeing him in full games twice a year, the rest of time it was just highlights. It completely obscured just how often he throws the ball into the ground about a yard from his receivers feet. As a fan, it's maddening. Almost as maddening as Jason Campbell's dying swan attempts at the QB slide.

I was seriously surprised this year. Eagles fans get a bad rep but now I realise they must have incredible reserves of patience. They completely low-balled how annoying that ground ball is.

So yeah, Favre DID stick it (to)Teddy.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Really? You actually think Thompson is losing sleep over losing meaninglessly in those two Viking "SuperBowls?" My guess is not. The Vikings only finished one game ahead of the Packers that year (when was that again?) and didn't prevent the Packers from making the playoffs either. You are a good example of why I now feel so sorry for the Vikings and their fans. It is hard to have so much while knowing others have so little. Maybe if they gave away Favre bobble-heads for that Monday night game it could help fill your trophy case? Would that help?

All you have to do is look at the options open to the vikings to see this isn't too bad of a move.

Palmer isn't going to wear purple. If he doesn't retire he ends up in California. My guess is San Fran. They have a good line and lots of talent catching the ball. vikes just don't have a good enough line for a pure pocket passer.

Vince Young - The vikes don't have the front office, head coach, or lock room for this project. He'd be a long term solution, but the vikes will probably be picking high the next couple years. Why take on a project Fisher could deal with?

Kolb - The price is way too high for an unproven commodity. Based off where the vikes will pick they can find just as good in the draft and the cost won't be as high.

Webb - Certainly intriguing, but way too raw, needs development. Would be a disaster to throw him to the wolves for a full season.

Rookie (insert any one of them) Would not be ready without any mini camps, and perhaps no training camp.

McNabb - Seasoned Qb, wants to play for vikes. Good role model for draftee or Webb. Probably only has a few years left and will not cause a Qb controversy.

Favre- Might be best guy if no training camp, but seems to have lost his desire and is probably done. Be embarrassing for coach and GM to beg him to come back. Will take over locker room and be disruptive. He'll try to be a GM.

I dunno, seems like McNabb is probably the best out there.

JimmySmith says:

The Vikings list of stopgap targets hardly begin and end with McNabb. They are in need of an OT, both left and right, a guard, a center, a few Defensive lineman, a WR and the entire defensive secondary. That’s more than they could draft and that was before they lost their 3rd round pick on a 4 game rental.

McNabb will surface somewhere in the NFL, I just happy to hear it will be with the last place Vikings. QB’s who are rapidly losing their skills no longer have to retire, they can just sign with the Vikings.

Little Jimmy, have your mommy read this to you: If you're talking about the same old qb-Favre that kicked your green bay ass twice as he turned 40, and had all the gb fans shaking their heads and saying: "why us why us....ya, that Ted Thompson is an idiot!"..Ya, that guy? Your ex qb that you guys kicked out?? Yep, the same one that made you guys cry, burn his jersey, curse him drinking your beer, you are correct sir!!!

Love it---oh little Jim you are such an easy target!!!

"Hey packfaninpackland" This isn’t “packland”. This is a Vikings page. Wake up. Go back to Holy Lambeau and worship.
--- Funny you should say that because, even though I'm from Madison, I will actually be at Lambeau tomorrow. Stop on by and I will intoduce you to what a Super Bowl trophy looks like !

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"If Minnesota beats the Packers in 2011, you’d better shut your mouth."
--- How could the Queens win, they have no QB, no team, no stadium, no trophies. But hey, you do have that playoff banner you trot out every December and hang in the end zone, and, heck, every 3 or 4 years you actually get someone to sew another year onto that banner - another year that ends in CRUSHING DEFEAT !!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"Winning a single Super Bowl, or 13 or 50 is not a guarantee of eternal dominance or infallibility."
--- No, but 50 years of zilch is certainly a sign of futility ! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"Rogers better not throw a single interception"
--- Nice job on the spelling of Rodgers. I see those Minnesota public schools are really working out for you !

"and Matthews better get 5 sacks per game"
--- No one loves The Claymaker more than I, but even I don't think he'll get 80 sacks next year. 25 or 30 maybe, but not 80.

"and Crosby better never miss, even in practice if this Packers team is to live up to your claims that"
--- So if Crosby misses a FG in practice that nulls the Super Bowl win ??? Oh, okay.

"Minny is so bad and dumb and stupid and idiots"
--- I couldn't have said it better myself. Bravo !

Yes the Vikings need a long term starter at QB, but no one (aside from maybe Mallet who is a huge risk) in this draft is capable of starting year one. McNabb makes sense if for no better reason then veteran free agents who want to win now will not walk away from the team as fast. This is why Arizona also needs a bridge at QB if they want to keep Larry Fitzgerald.

Also, McNabbs stock has dropped enough that when he does give way to a young player they won't (by that time) be looking over their shoulder.

And even then, the best season the Queens have had in the last 30 years was solely due to a Packer.

Please either trade for McNabb, or draft Newton and give him a gazillion dollars !

Ted suck it to Favre when Tracy Porter picked him off? Must have been confusing Darren Sharper wearing green and gold again. The PACKERS had nothing to do with the SAINTS playing the VIKINGS in the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME that year while the PACKERS were sitting at home watching. There is a reason why Teddy wouldn’t cut Favre. There is a reason why Teddy had a poison pill in the trade to the Jets. He was scared Favre actually would have completed that pass to Sidney Rice.
===============================
LOL @ you Viking fans still talking about the "Glory season" of two years ago.

It doesn't matter that you beat GB twice TWO YEARS ago. It also doesn't matter that you played in the NFC Championship game TWO YEARS ago. You didn't win a championship. In the end your season was as big a failure as ours.

By the way, don't forget we swept you and your savior LAST year, including a 31-3 route in your house. Oh yeah, we also won the Super Bowl. Again.

I don't think McNabb can help the Vikings any more than Favre. There seems to be something internally flawed with that organization. I mean, how many teams teams let other teams go ahead of them in the draft? With a history of failure, one wonders what it will take to shake off this enormous gorilla? They are swinging again with the same flawed logic. Isn't that supposed to be the definition of insanity? They have sacrificed everything for the "win now" attitude over the past couple years. Shouldn't logic dictate that if you couldn't "win now", shouldn't you consider the alternative and rebuild?
