I can’t believe anyone would watch this show if there weren’t a lockout. The matchups are already determined, it’s just the order in which they are played.

Honestly, I can’t believe that people don’t have something better to do.

they have to release a schedule so the teams can plan other events in the stadiums and so the networks can put a plan in place. If games get cancelled, games get cancelled.

But they need to prepare for business as usual or teams can lose out on other revenue (concerts, etc..), and need to prepare staffing plans (scheduling, how many employees, etc)

common sense, really. What would be the point in waiting until later to announce the schedule? It harms nothing to do it now.

You absolutely challenge “the boss”. These aren’t just rank and file employees. They are the product that people are paying for. That’s a dynamic that seems overlooked by the anti-player contingent on these comment boards. Without the product the “bosses” have nothing to sell. They can’t outsource production to China. They can’t merge with their competition to consolidate personnel (mass layoffs). All they have left is to squeeze concessions from the only people keeping them afloat. It’s pure greed on the part of the owners. They think they can outlast the players if the money is cut off and they’re probably right.

Only look at your teams last 8 games, because that is how long season will be , if at all. Expect to see alot of crppy games and interconferanc egames early and divisional games late.

To the NFLPA …you dont challenge the BOSS!!! 1.Fire all of the players(blackball)them an start all over with a new league .2. pay them all 500,000 a year..and never change it..3.drop ticket prices to 20.00 dollars a ticket..4.charge $1.25 a beer,an finally #5.charge $5.00 dollars for parking….that way the (BOSSES)who put up all the money,don’t make to damn much money…an these damn players will quit acting like a bunch of cry babies,

Why bother? Until both sides agree to mediate in good faith instead of biding their time until it goes to court, nothing will happen.

Worst thing they can do ~ let it get tied-up in court and settled by lawyers. At least the Packers will be reigning champs until this mess eventually does get settled. Unfortunately 1/2 of the viewing audience will have found baseball, racing or women’s field hockey to watch instead of their former favorite past-time.

Gregg, forget the lockout for a second. I got a question about the schedules (pre season too). Preseason HOF game Bears vs Rams. I thought AFC vs NFC, second, same thing with the London game. Bears vs Bucs, again not AFC vs NFC please explain?

At least this time they are not waiting to announce the schedule, which I believe was delayed last year because the NFL I suspect had to make up two schedules ready in case Conan o’Brien signed with FOX (which at the time last year was thought to likely happen), trying to wait to see what happened there before Conan signed with Time Warner/Turner to do his current show on TBS (my suspicion was, if Conan had signed with FOX, the NFL was going to have to have given ESPN a far stronger schedule than they got last year to compensate for having to move up two November Monday night games (11/8 & 11/15) to a 7:00 PM ET kickoff to best assure they ended before Conan would have aired his first two Monday shows on FOX, which would have been the same 11:00 PM ET time slot his TBS show currently has).

Anyway, if I were Godell, I would have announced the season would start Sept. 14 with most teams starting Sept. 18-19. There are still a lot of family memebers of 9/11 victims that have never been able to move past that day, and with this year the 10th anniversary of such, many of those family members in particular would deem it inappropriate to play on the 9/11 anniversary along with others, especially those who were never able to bury their loved ones because no body fragments could be found (for those who don’t remember, the last funeral for an officer killed on 9/11 didn’t take place until days short of the second anniversary).

As for the Bears-Bucs game being in London, I suspect the Glazers were very concerned about that game being a December Monday night game where Bears fans would have bought up the overwhelming number of the tickers and turned it into an extra home game for the Bears, enough to potentially knock the Bucs out of the playoffs. That’s why I think the Glazers specifically asked to host the London game and it being against the Bears.
