Comments on: Giants-Redskins will play on 9/11 in D.C.

The Redskins play Monday Night on the road in Dallas, then go out on the road and play at St. Louis the next week. What’s up with that? I thought the NFL had a schedule policy where a team playing on Monday night on the road always got to play at home the following week because their practice week is already cut short. A quick check of the schedule and I see the Redskins and the Raiders are the only teams to have Sunday road games coming off of a Monday night road game.

Even though you can’t ignore the PR value the NFL is going for in scheduling these games in NY and DC, it is a great way to honor those cities who endured the attacks. It is way better than scheduling a road game and pretending no one remembers what happened.

One personal memory from the first week of football after the attacks is being in Arrowhead Stadium as the visiting Giants took the field and received a standing ovation.

Classy move from classy fans.

Symbolic. And Jets-Giants wouldn’t make sense if for nothing other than season ticket issues. There would be cries of foul no matter who they made the home team.

Honestly, I know 9/11 was a significant day for some people, but if we’re remembering events like this years later, where’s the league’s special game in memorial to the sacking of Washington? Certainly that was a bigger tragedy, no?

The Pentagon, which was attacked in the eleventh day of September in 2001, is located in Arlington, Virginia, not Washington in the District of Columbia. The scheduled game between the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants would still be close geographically, as the game would be played in Landover, Maryland.

I’m tired of seeing and hearing “9/11″ and “September 11th” in reference to the attacks on that calendar date in 2001. It’s just an ordinary date like any other date on the calendar. Every future eleventh day of September should be a new day to enjoy life, including birthday celebrations and wedding anniversaries, and it should not be overshadowed by the attacks on that date in 2001. That would just make the folks who committed the attacks on that day more powerful in death.

Can’t wait to see if the Giants do something to reduce Eli’s interception rate. Good place to start with the Skins unless Orakpo end Manning’s season.

NY and Washington on 9/11 is appropriate.

Only problem is, whatever hit the ground in Shanksville wasn’t a plane. Even the mayor, one of the first on the scene said “I don’t know what this was, but I know what it wasn’t, and it wasn’t a plane.”
Plane crashes leave large debris fields of recognizable wreckage – not just small empty holes in the ground.

This actually makes more sense than NY-NY in NY.

Why have half the city PO’d after an emotional day? Plus DC was a big part of the events of that day as well. It almost seemed TOO much to have Jets-Giants be the match up.

The more I think about it the more sense it makes. Good move by the NFL.
