Zeroing in on Detroit’s first round pick

A lot of mock drafts have the Lions addressing their need at tackle with the No. 13 overall pick.

That could be a stretch considering the lack of elite tackle talent in this draft. Gil Brandt of NFL.com, for one, doesn’t believe the Lions will go that route.

“Everybody seems to think it’s an offensive lineman,” Brandt said. “I have a little connection with your head coach there, and I don’t think they will take an offensive lineman . . . I think it’s going to be a defensive player.”

(If Brandt is right, we wonder if Schwartz will appreciate that connection giving away draft plans.)

We tend to agree the Lions would love to add another defensive playmaker and Brandt went on to mention Da’Quan Bowers and Aldon Smith as pass-rushing possibilities at that spot. Cornerback Prince Amukamara would seem like an obvious pick, but we doubt he’ll slip that far.
