Brandon Marshall calls Ryan Mallett “The hip Matty Ice”

Brandon Marshall, Tony Sparano AP

Brandon Marshall came up with a more flattering nickname for Ryan Mallett than “Caucasian Street Guy.”

In a series of Tweets Tuesday that seemingly pushed for the Dolphins to draft Ryan Mallett, Marshall called Mallett “the hip Matty Ice” in response to a tweet from Roddy White.   Nice.

That line came in jest, but Marshall’s appreciation for Mallett was serious.

“Listen to me. Ryan Mallett will be an All-Pro Qb,” Marshall wrote.

Marshall, who quickly has become one of the more entertaining players to follow on Twitter, was in a predictive mood last night.

“Blog it . . . Hate it . . . Criticize it . . . Dolphins and 49ers in Super Bowl XLVI,” Marshall said.

We like the optimism.  But there’s a much better chance of Mallett joining Marshall as a teammate than Miami and San Francisco reaching the Super Bowl.

(Thanks to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post for pointing this one out.)

My thoughts were right. We (black people) don’t have problems with white people who have a little “street” to them. It’s other white people who hate on them and say things that are racist like (they think they black, or call them the w word). Those who thought Jamie was racist because of his comments on Mallet didn’t realize he was giving him some support.

Since when has a positive endorsement from a guy like Marshall been a good thing for anyones career? Not to say he isn’t right…I mean, you dont get considered as a first round QB with nothing going for you.

  4. amspeed13 says: Apr 20, 2011 12:17 PM

“Mallett to Marshall” is something I hope to be hearing for years to come.

  5. gilgafresh says: Apr 20, 2011 12:19 PM

    Awww… how cute.

The “dim TO” already has a little nickname for the next guy who’ll get flamed for not throwing to other receivers.

    We all have dreams!
    Realistic or not.

  7. angrycorgi says: Apr 20, 2011 12:21 PM

And Brandon Marshall is “the slightly-less-impressive Megatron”. See, we can all come up with great nicknames.

  8. hoppes1 says: Apr 20, 2011 12:23 PM

I think Ryan Mallett will do just fine in the NFL.

  9. paulitik74 says: Apr 20, 2011 12:24 PM

Ryan Mallett couldn’t hold Matt Ryan’s jock.

He’s more “Matty Vinegar & Water” than Matty Ice.

    Screw that Petrino spawn douchenozzle.

Brandon Marshall’s next catch in a playoff game will be his first.

  12. 7pints says: Apr 20, 2011 12:32 PM

Is there a more overrated player in the entire NFL than Brandon Marshall??? Impossible to take this clown seriously.

  13. georgeanderson2 says: Apr 20, 2011 12:40 PM

He must be playing Tecmo Bowl.

Dolphins will once again be battling for third place with Buffalo in AFC East. The total meltdown is coming very soon in Miami as Marshall continues not gettting his way.

At least the Dolphins will entertain their fans with the cast of Teen Mom 2, Mob Wives and some former American idol castoff from the 4th season. That is what puts fans in the stands.

Worst owner with no idea how to run a football team in the league. Ross and his goons woud be better off running a UFL team.

  14. eaglesfan290 says: Apr 20, 2011 12:53 PM

Ummm is anyone else thinking that maybe when the Dolphins find out he has street creed he will not be drafted?

  15. karlpilkington says: Apr 20, 2011 12:57 PM

Being a white guy I was very very offended that……….. he was predicting a dolphins – niners superbowl!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. knowerofallthings says: Apr 20, 2011 1:07 PM

Mallett is going to be way better than Matt “without Roddy I’d be nothing” Ryan

  17. gregjennings85 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:11 PM

I agree with Marshall. I think Mallet is getting knocked for the way he talks and carries hiimself. I want anyone to measure his skills as a QB up against any of the top guys in an NFL game situation.

Also, and I know this sounds crazy, but Tyrod Taylor of VT is looking like he’s going to be a good NFL QB. He’s got better escapabilty than Drew Brees, an inferior arm obviously, but they see the field similarly, and that is key, considering they are both around 6′ tall.

  18. gregjennings85 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:12 PM

    Agree completely, Kaz.

  19. gregjennings85 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:14 PM

Matt Ryan would be average were it not for Turner’s running, and White’s and Gonzalez’s receiving skills.

Oh, also, Tramon Williams send his regards, Matty.

  20. 49ersforever says: Apr 20, 2011 1:19 PM

So Brandon Marshall is predicting Alex Smith won’t be the 49ers starting qb.

  21. mike32303 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:20 PM

    @gregjennings85

So you think that an unproven college QB can measure up with the top NFL guys.. This guy really isnt that great honestly.. And the fact that your even talking about tyrod taylor is completely retarted… The guy is a better version of pat white lmao.. And i guarantee you he does not see the field from a football IQ perspective like Brees.. I cant believe some of you people on here

  22. mike32303 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:21 PM

Oh and for brandon “i dont care about my team” marshall…. nice superbowl prediction lol hahahahahahahahahahaha

  23. zoxitic says: Apr 20, 2011 1:24 PM

Translation: I need someone who can throw the ball farther than 20 yards.

  24. hnirobert3 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:25 PM

How funny is it that the picture in this post is of the Dolphins sideline looking at – what else – a field goal attempt. It’s really hard being a Dolphins fan.

  25. zoxitic says: Apr 20, 2011 1:26 PM

Miami will actually be the most entertaining place for the Mallett bomb to explode.

  26. somisseagle says: Apr 20, 2011 1:27 PM

    Brandon Marshall said it, huh?

    Stay away from Mallett then.

  27. mightymightylafootball says: Apr 20, 2011 1:28 PM

Another summa cum laude deciding that the world needs to hear his thoughts on how to build a winning football program.

    *yawn*

Dolphins -Niners HaHaHAHA HA. No way, rowns and Panthers have the edge.

  29. RedSox83 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:31 PM

The Dolphins are the Redskins of the AFC East!

paraphrased: taylor is faster than brees, cant throw like him, but since their both 6 feet tall than they must be comparable in terms of their football vision.
sorry but “seeing the field” has more to do with reading the play than physically viewing the field from the same trajectory

  31. brutus9448 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:39 PM

Marshall will be traded for anyone that would give up 2n round pick for him. He’s garbage

  32. ghostrider25 says: Apr 20, 2011 1:56 PM

Not only is Mallett the hip Matty Ice, but apparently he smokes ice too.

  33. thephantomstranger says: Apr 20, 2011 1:59 PM

I thought he was “the hip Vanilla Ice.”

  34. saxmachine69 says: Apr 20, 2011 2:10 PM

it’s funny that Marshall gives relates him to “Matty Ice”.

Hey Marshall, you should double check how Matt Ryan got that nickname. It came from clutch situations, winning close games. Something that outside of the off field issues, is probably the biggest concern with Mallett, he chokes under pressure

  35. falconsfan says: Apr 20, 2011 2:26 PM

Oh how Marshall wishes the Dolphins had picked Matt Ryan over Chad Henne or Jake Long right about now… I do think it’s a compliment to Matt Ryan that players are now comparing rookies to him over the usual Manning/Brady comparisons.

  36. thehighhat says: Apr 20, 2011 2:32 PM

I’m a 49er fan and even I think he’s out of his mind!

  37. hobartbaker says: Apr 20, 2011 2:39 PM

There are lots of “Caucasian Street Guys” out there. Mostly in their 50s and 60s.

  38. johnnyshore says: Apr 20, 2011 2:50 PM

As a Niner fan I gotta love the optimism for San Fran, but Mike Greenberg picked them for the Super Bowl last year on his ESPN picks and we all know how that turned out.

No, my point was they move in the pocket and feel pressure similarly. I guess (again) I should have screened my post via 3rd party reviewer prior to submitting it. Also, while we’re on the subject their does not equal they are.

Is there any evidence that he’s from the “streets” other than his ridiculous wigger accent? There are plenty of suburban posers who talk like that because they think it’s cool. Maybe he’s one of those wannabe gangster jackasses. He certainly acts like a jackass off the field.
