We don’t have a Cam Newton-to-Panthers consensus quite yet

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he would estimate there was an 80% chance the Panthers will draft Cam Newton. The fun part about this draft is that no one really knows for sure.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, for one, isn’t convinced the Panthers will take Newton.

“I feel very strongly that Carolina would like to trade out of the No. 1 overall pick,” Mayock said on a conference call Wednesday.

If the Panthers keepthe pick, Mayock thinks they still might not take Newton. He believes Marcell Dareus and Patrick Peterson would be the other options there, interestingly not mentioning A.J. Green.

It’s hard to imagine Newton falling far with Buffalo and Cincinnati sitting at No.3 and No. 4.

Still, it’s not a lock just yet that Newton will be a Carolina Panther. Mayock has consistently put out one of the most accurate mock drafts before the draft. If he’s not convinced Newton is the pick, we’re not convinced just yet either.
