Bucs G.M. Mark Dominik revealed in his pre-draft press conference Thursday that deep snapper Andrew Economos has torn his Achilles’ tendon.
The Bucs are unsure of Economos’ recovery timetable, and whether he’ll be ready for the 2011 campaign. Achilles’ tears are often career-threatening injuries for NFL players, though it’s unclear how one would impact a long snapper.
We’d tentatively guess Economos won’t be playing next season.
Economos, who turns 29 in two months, has been the Bucs’ long snapper for the past two seasons.
He signed a five-year, $4 million extension in June of 2008.

That’s a nice chunk of change to toss a football 5-10 yards behind you.
Economos’ long tendon snapped like he was an ancient Greek or something.
If the players and teams aren’t supposed to have any contact, how does the team know about this?
Sad to hear, I was an intern with the Jags when he was in camp there. Didn’t win the job but nice guy.
