Teammate says latest Brandon Marshall mess is no surprise

AP

Most of us, if we heard that a co-worker had been stabbed by his wife, would be shocked. But maybe not if the co-worker was Brandon Marshall.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald writes that when he texted a Dolphins player Saturday morning to tell him the news, that teammate of Marshall’s replied, “And this is supposed to surprise me how?

That may be insensitive, considering that Marshall is, after all, a victim of domestic violence: His wife has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for sticking a knife into his abdomen. But Marshall has a long track record of getting involved in domestic disputes and other off-field problems, and so it wouldn’t be surprising if many Dolphins players had the same response that the unnamed teammate gave to Salguero.

Another unnamed source on the Dolphins told Salguero the situation is “very frustrating.” It would also be very surprising if the Dolphins didn’t think, when they acquired Marshall from Denver, that a time would come when they’d be dealing with off-field issues that he brought with him.

  1. Samething I posted yesterday. If you’re surprised at that, then you are the type that was surprised when Star Jones got a divorce..when Adam Labert came out the closet….you get my point.

  2. The last NFL relationship that looked this unhealthy resulted in Chris Henry falling out of the back of a truck…a truck his psycho girlfriend was driving mach-1 down a residential street. Maybe some of these pros should check out Match.com

  3. Irving Fryar says “Way to get you game on!”.
With T.O. and Ocho Cinco reaching the twilight of their career’s it’s nice that guys like Marshall and Britt can step up their game.

  4. Interesting that a critique of your source in this article has been yanked twice. Don’t mind printing libelous criticisms of Brandon but not one of the guy who has him in his sights every chance he gets?

  5. Let’s try again:

Salguero has a tremendous amount of contempt Marshall – or anybody that isn’t a saint. He blames Marshall for this incident without any prior investigation and is calling for his head already. No matter that Marshall has been very well behaved since arriving in Miami. It’s probably because Marshall gives more interviews to Omar Kelly of the SunSentinel and Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post than he does Salguero. Which is another of Salguero’s tactics: to lambaste those who don’t toe his line (except Sparano and Ireland who’s shoes he shines any time he can – even when they are deserving of criticism). Did I mention that he also despises Ricky Williams and also drags him through the mud at every opportunity. If you aren’t a saint – you’re scum in his eyes.

  6. Let’s give Salguero some of his own medicine: He steals other people’s leads and takes credit for them (particularly those of Ben Volin of the PBPost and Joe Rose – who Salguero regularly, and openly bashes to the point of libel). When he does get one for himself he publicly pats himself on the back so much it’s downright nauseating. He makes outlandish proclamations about what the Fins are going to do, claiming that his source is “high up” in the organization then says nothing in apology/retraction when things turn out the opposite of what he has declared them to be…

  7. A CHILD-MAN with impulse control issues and the emotional maturity of a 9 year old who is a GIFTED athlete….what to do…..what to do…..

Trade him to Chicago…..As Al would say: JUST WIN BABY!

  8. So, if you’re going to quote Salguero in your articles, they definitely fall under the “(Probably False) Rumour” category, not “news.”

One last tidbit: he actually had the audacity to tweet Brandon Marshalls address. Then, when taken to task for it by his readers, pulled the old “blame it on my editor” tact. Nice.

  9. Asked to expand on the “frustrating” comment, the other unnamed teammate allowed that he had the over/under set at one year on how long it would take Marshall to get killed in Miami. “That’s out the window now, but it was close. Frustrating.”.

  10. Another great example of someone I would want as a partner if I owned a multi-billion dollar business.

  11. Behavior is a function of personality and your personality doesn’t change. That’s why the same guys keep on showing up in the papers for all the wrong reasons.

  12. You don’t need to be a teammate to be “not surprised”.

There has to be at least 10 million women in their 20’s women in the US. Pick one that doesn’t have the desire to end your life from time to time.

  13. Probably wasn’t a very big surprize to Marshall either, to be perfectly honest.

Mr Marshall, somebody’s at the door for you….He says his name is Karma.

  14. Doesn’t surprise me either. Why the Dolphins wanted him is beyond me. Hell, why anyone would put up with him is bewildering.
When will teams learn to say NO. Why wont the team adopt a policy that states If you act like a clown on one team, then none of the other 31 teams will touch you.
Once just one player acts like a fool and puts himself out of the league, I bet the other clowns start acting like they got some sense

  15. When your teammates turn on you in the NFL, you have to know you are living your life wrong. Think of the crap that NFL players do, and no players comment on it. And they talk in public about this? That shows what kind of teammate and person Marshall is.

  16. There shouldn’t be any more anonymous or nameless quotes in articles. Put your name to it if you’ve got something to say. Website comments sections don’t count 😐

  17. Hope Brandon and his wife get the help they need. Looks like they both have anger management and maturity issues.

Can’t wait to read the posts from all of PFT’s self-righteous commenters who will call this guy every name under the sun.

Lot of high-horses and glass-houses ’round these parts.

Your “thumbs down” doesn’t scare me.

  18. An “unnamed” source, and another “unnamed” source. Sounds like some stand-up guys there.

  19. Damn, this guy makes millions and that’s the best he could do? Brandon, dump her NOW! Get yourself a good wife!

As a die-hard Phinfan, I’m still a Brandon Marshall fan. I was one hoping that Phins would trade for him and I don’t regret it. Now get him a worthy QB and a better wife!

I’ll admit, I have no idea why she stabbed him. Nonetheless, I can’t imagine me wife stabbing me for any reason.

  20. Must be nice to be the team’s highest paid player and supposed playmaker and have such respect from your team mates on the person you are.

Don’t worry Dophin fans, hopefully Andrew Luck doesn’t go Jake Locker his senior year.

  21. take a page out of the steeler way of handling these kind of players. cut his stupid azz and move forward, let somebody else have the headache.

  22. I think the big suprise would be to find someone who at one time or another, hasnt felt the urge to stab Brandon Marshall in the gut.

  23. reminds me a little of that season 8 episode of Seinfeld where Elaine was dating a guy who was repeatedly attacked by women. I recall he then made fun of Elaine’s “big head” and he said something about her nose too.

  24. So, after reading about Brandon’s initial story of how his wife through a vase at him supposedly pierced his abdomen, does anybody else wonder what happened in the McDonalds wrapper slippage to coffee table/entertainment center/TV stand incident?
C’mon Brandon, if you’re going to keep getting cut fighting with your family members, at least put some thought into the alibi…..ummmm explanation.

  25. C’mon, Brandon, there is an old guy in Africa who had about 100 wives and was about 80 years old. If he can manage to stay healthy, is it really that hard?

  26. “And this is supposed to surprise me how?”

A white guy said this. A black guy wouldn’t say it that way.

seriously, this guy needs to go. total headache when he played for the Browns

    ==================================

Are you confusing Brandon Marshall with Braylon Edwards???? I mean they are both headcases, but Marshall is a much better receiver…. Marshall played for the Broncos though.. Edwards played for the Brownies… well.. sort of….

  28. When this first came out everybody was bashing the Wife on here.

    Pretty funny I think.

Again, I never thought football fans were all that bright to begin with.

  29. if i were bmarsh i would not give a damn what anybody said about me or what anybody thought i would know i have a 50 mil contract if i play well & btw although he probly did something really bad to piss off his wife, but he was the one that got cut up not the one doing the cutting so why all these posters on here saying get rid of him he’s trouble? he’s the victim here i’dhate to see what you guys have to say if he were the one in the wrong.

  30. Say what you want, but, Josh McDaniels knows personnel. Cutler ain’t done nothin’, nor will he ever & Marshall is a moral midget. McD got rid of both and rightfully so. He will be a great HC in 5 years, with all he’s dealt with. Not now, 5 years.

  31. Another bad guy. I get a kick out of some fans fans taking a players side all the time. This guy ought to have his butt booed every time his name is mentioned. He embarrasses the team and his city and some of these knuckleheads can’t wait until he’s back. Same people who turn a blind eye to their favorite college team when some of their players get in trouble. These people have no clue!

Self righteous, sanctimonious, judgmental SOB. I’d just love to know what you do in your closet…

Just like how they handled Ben Rothlisberger??

  36. Just want to throw a scenario out there for the author of this article. Maybe the teammate you texted was already notified a few times about Brandon’s situation and answered your text as a result of iritation?

Old chap, one suspects that you are grossly overstating the intellectual capacity of NFL players…
