Veteran Cowboys sit down with Dez Bryant

Dez Bryant AP

After a string of stories called into question whether Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant could stay out of trouble during the lockout, teammate Andre Gurode said that he and some other Dallas veterans would approach Bryant as a group. Now that meeting has happened.

Bryant said he had a lunch meeting with Gurode, quarterback Tony Romo and linebacker Keith Brooking.

“Just finished eating with chase crawford,Tony romo Keith and Aundre gurode…had a good time,” Bryant tweeted.

Chace Crawford is an actor whose sister is engaged to Romo. I’m not sure what he contributed to the discussion. But the other three Cowboys are veterans who have a vested interest in making sure their talented young teammate avoid trouble during the lockout and can contribute whenever the season starts. It’s good to know Bryant had a good time talking to them.

Are they gonna help him hold his pants up too?

Pretty sad a grown man needs a baby sitter to teach him right from wrong and stay out of trouble…
Just let him hand out with Brandon Marshall they both are gonna end up in the same place anyway.
    JAIL OR DEAD….

must not have been much of an intervention if dez enjoyed it

Was this another $54,000 meal on Dez?

  5. melikefootball says: Apr 24, 2011 10:46 AM

Another example of a stellar type individual represnting the NFL and a NFL team. If this was a major Corp they would have let him go, long ago.

  6. citizenstrange says: Apr 24, 2011 10:50 AM

It’s probably more that just in case there is an NFL season this year Romo wants to finalize their plans for Cabo when the playoffs start.

  7. nuxsucks says: Apr 24, 2011 10:54 AM

Nice to see somewhat positive stories like this. Bryant is a talented reciever with a bright future if he can stay healthy and out of trouble, and not giving up on him after one season is probably the right move.

  8. kevsright says: Apr 24, 2011 10:59 AM

At least Dez hasn’t lied about attending THIS meal, like he did with Sanders.
Hope no one asked how his parents are doing.

  9. dempsey63 says: Apr 24, 2011 11:02 AM

Fortunately Bryant was able to trade a $50,000 piece of bling to the restaurant owner as payment for the lunch.

  10. boknowsvt says: Apr 24, 2011 11:06 AM

I wonder if they forced Bryant to pay the bill?

where are all the Cowboy haters now?

  12. eaglesnoles05 says: Apr 24, 2011 11:16 AM

I really really hated that he fell to Dallas last draft. It’s going to be a constant battle between his ability to keep himself on the field and him dominating the Ish out of us for the next 10-12 years. Last year, score. Hoping for the same next year, cuz it’s baaaaaad news if not.

    Signed,
    The Eagles

I’m a Cowboy fan. I generally like Romo. Why would in the world would he bring Chace Crawford to this gathering? That’s just weird. It’s more evidence of his overly nonchalant attitude toward everything.

Some teammates wanted to have a serious discussion with Bryant, Romo shows up but brings his future brother-in-law. It’s weird.

    Hey Haters,

Your Mom needs you to clean the garage errrrrr your room. I’m the same age as DEZ and it’s not out of the ordinary to see young people get a lot of money and act like they rule the world. All this hate is because some of you are High School stars who claim if you had that chance you’d “be there.”

Sit back and watch the legend.

  20. jo3jo says: Apr 24, 2011 12:08 PM

    @mhasseto

These players already do a fine job of making excuses for their assinine actions. They also have plenty of others that do just fine making excuses for them.

They sure don’t need another like yourself to enable them. People like you are why these clowns act the way they do.

There’s part of me that says, if you have even a sliver of a brain in your head you know the difference between right and wrong – BUT – There’s another part of me that realizes that this kid is in the strangest place he’s ever seen – He has less of a chance of understanding what’s happening to him than you do if you were dropped stark naked in the middle of Kazakhstan. The problem is that he comes from (to be charitable) a questionable home environment and a questionalbe neighborhood where his only knowledge of the rest of the world is TV. His only chance at survival is if he cuts all ties and embraces his new life. Ask yourself if you’d be willing to get rid of ALL of your friends and most of your family, because that’s what it’s going to take, not Tony Romo’s brother-in-law.

  29. mick730 says: Apr 24, 2011 12:47 PM

Did the conversation start with, “Look Fool”?

It did, and then it continued like this: ‘ This is a belt. It goes around your waist through those little loops at the top of your pants. Nice people may be able to overlook teenagers wearing their pants halfway down their backsides, you on the other hand, even though you are only 23, you look like you’re 50. So knock it off. It’s creepy. Also, Fool, when you buy things, you have to pay for them. If you don’t eventually you’ll go to jail. Fool.

He has been coddled and treated with kid’s gloves long enough. Either he has a conscience or not. If not, then when he washes out of football, he can go be muscle for his father.

Why would he listen to people who milked him out of 54K for a meal.

He could probably use that $ right now.

Everyone who participated in that meal should be ashamed & pay that kid back.

This is funny. So it couldn’t have been just a regular lunch? Nope, it was to ask him how they can help get him out of this “dark place” where he owes some money. If that’s the case, most of this country’s eating establishments would be jam packed with people sitting down with friends that are in debt. Oh no Dez! You’re in such a dark place! Please…

PFT, just because Chase isn’t involved in football doesn’t mean he can’t have good advice of how to live one’s life in the spotlight. I’m not saying Crawford is in the “spotlight” as much as Dez, but don’t confuse being involved with football for knowing what’s going on….

The first thing that popped into my head is that Tony brought Chace as someone who is closer to Dez’s age, who lives in Dallas and would be someone he could hang out with. They prob joked about snow bunnies and such, and then said, get your act together or the money goes away fast son.

this is typical of the cowboys, bengals, raiders. you dont hear any of these shananigans from the patriots, steelers, colts or any organization that consistantly wins. instead of trying to make a big splash to sell tickets and merchandise try drafting high character players who want to win and the rest will take care of itself.

“Terrible job of parenting by his mother. Communities need to do a better job of teaching kids right from wrong from an early age. Poor or rich.”

What planet do you live on? Communities? You’ve got to be kidding me? Do you realize what goes on in public schools these days, and in particular, what goes on in public schools regarding discipline, let alone teaching? The United States spends more per pupil on public education in K through 12 than all of the rest of the countries in the world with the exception of Switzerland. And what do we get for all that money? Not a fricking thing. No discipline, no education, nothing.

Communities are made up of people. Most people have their hands full raising their own children and taking care of their own problems. You cannot expect the responsible people in any community to be responsible for the people who are totally irresponsible. Expecially when the public schools offer no assistance whatsoever.

yeah….if you call players taking another player out to lunch shenanigans. give it a rest, hater. you’re right, you never hear about this kinda stuff from the Steelers. you hear about more serious things, like their “star” QB being accused of rape not once but TWICE.

And the Pats don’t meddle with shenanigans. They just videotape their opponents defensive signals and have their head coach walk off the field before the clock runs out during the SUPER BOWL.

Nobody really cares what players on those teams do. We watch them on Sunday and could give a siht about them otherwise. Well, except for when the Pats are videotaping, Ben’s raping somebody or Marvin Harrison’s shooting somebody.

It was lunch. Lunch is “shenanigans”? I’m pretty sure that the Steelers, Pats and Colts eat lunch, too. It’s just like I said, nobody gives a crap about them but Steelers, Pats, and Colts fans.
