When coming up with Atlanta’s team needs for the draft -- we wrapped up the series on Saturday -- wide receiver ranked second on the Falcons’ list. Matt Ryan needs another speed option to throw to.
It’s no surprise, then, that the Falcons continue to be tied to receivers in the buildup to the draft. D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution “keeps hearing” that the Falcons love Troy wideout Jerrel Jernigan.
“If he’s still there at No. 59, they likely won’t waste much time turning in his card,” Ledbetter writes.
ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas believes Jernigan and Titus Young could be options for Atlanta in the second round. If the Falcons don’t want to wait, they could use their first-round pick at the position.
“I’ve been hearing the names of [Torrey] Smith and [Jonathan] Baldwin connected to the Falcons a lot in the past week or so,” Yasinskas writes.
Baldwin is an intriguing prospect that could be an upgrade from Michael Jenkins with a little seasoning. Whether the Falcons take him or not, it’d be a surprise if they don’t wind up drafting a receiver Thursday or Friday.
