For a guy who rushed for less than 500 yards in 2010, former Virginia Tech tailback Ryan Williams is entering the NFL with plenty of fanfare. He’ll be attending the draft, at which time he’s expected to be the second or third running back selected.
Williams also has signed with Nike, joining only A.J. Green, Patrick Peterson, and Nick Fairley as the new members of Nike’s incoming class of players.
In 2009, Williams set the Virginia Tech single-season record with 1,655 yards on the ground. A hamstring injury and a backfield rotation depressed his numbers in 2010.
Given the position he plays, Williams could make a significant impact in his first season, even if he’s one of the last of the 25 rookies invited to the draft to be selected.
