Web site claims it will pay Cam Newton $1 million to pass a polygraph

Cam Newton AP

Cam Newton says he didn’t know his dad asked for $180,000 from colleges that were recruiting him. If he’ll say that while strapped to a polygraph — and if the polygraph says he’s telling the truth — there’s a web site offering Newton a lot more money than his dad was asking for.

CamNewtonLieDetector.com has an offer out to Newton: Take a lie detector test, answer four questions about the process that led you to Auburn, and if you deny wrongdoing and the test shows that your denials are truthful, we’ll give you $1 million.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution has the details, and these are the four questions that Newton needs to answer “no” to:

1. Prior to signing with Auburn, were you aware your father was “shopping” you to Mississippi State or any other school?

2. Did you tell Dan or Meghan Mullen that you signed with Auburn because of the money because you truly believed Auburn had paid for your commitment?

3. Did anyone on the Auburn coaching staff/athletic department instruct you how to answer questions from the NCAA by lying or avoiding the truth?

4. Did you or your family ever receive any impermissible benefits from Auburn?

Although the people running the site insist that “Our offer is real,” it would be stupid for Newton to even consider it unless the site puts the $1 million in an escrow account and agrees to let an independent polygraph administrator conduct the test.

But if the site will stipulate to that, Newton ought to do it. It would be a good opportunity for him to clear his name, and to put $1 million in his pocket even before he signs his rookie contract. If he’s telling the truth.

    Funny.
Probably arranged by an Alabama fan.
Cheaper just to just poison some Auburn trees, I would think..

Contrary to popular belief, a polygraph is an incredibly unreliable measurement instrument and it is impossible for it to determine definitively that someone is lying. The only reason they’re used by law enforcement is to get people to admit to things because they’re afraid a lie will be detected. Polygraph results are not admissible as evidence in court. Newton would be stupid to agree to this.

  4. chapnastier says: Apr 26, 2011 12:28 PM

He wont do it because he wont pass it!

  5. medtxpack says: Apr 26, 2011 12:28 PM

they should let Gruden conduct the test…haha

  6. canetic says: Apr 26, 2011 12:30 PM

The questions need work. They are too vague for an accurate polygraph.

#1 should just be — Did you or your father receive money in exchange for your commitment to Auburn?

LOL nice, put the guy in a corner for crying out loud. Why not attack Mallett over drug use too? I’m expecting racial targeting comments soon.

  9. canadianvikingfaniii says: Apr 26, 2011 12:32 PM

The whole thing is stupid. They are just looking for excuses to sully the guy..

I skipped straight to the Comment box to say, that with good authority based on the title, NOONE PROBABLY GIVES TWO CRAPS.
In related news with it being the off season anything will get posted on here.

Not that a poly is definitely accurate, but I would love to watch this happen.

Another cheap stunt by a lame website to discredit Cam.
I’ll pay $2 million dollars to the site owner if he’s able to prove me he is not an idiot.

  13. tom35mt says: Apr 26, 2011 12:41 PM

I wish i could throw 1 million dollars down the toilet like this

  14. revisisland says: Apr 26, 2011 12:45 PM

This is absolutely ridiculous. Leave the kid alone why don’t these people go make a website and find out if Roethlisberger raped those girls because that seems like a more pressing issue to me. Newton isn’t the first athlete to have taken improper benefits to attend a school. I don’t care what Newton’s NFL career turns out to be but with all the people hating on him for no reason it just makes me want him to prove everyone wrong.

  16. galvestontexans says: Apr 26, 2011 12:49 PM

There is no way he is going to do that

  17. mgborgli says: Apr 26, 2011 1:02 PM

Even though I think he won’t be a very good qb in the NFL your site obsession with cam and his alleged transactions is better left for the likes of espn.

  18. FinFan68 says: Apr 26, 2011 1:04 PM

he won’t do that even if the stipulations are made.

  19. Davo says: Apr 26, 2011 1:05 PM

So what? By the weekend he’ll be a pro player and negotiating a 8 figure package. Why would “clearing his name” matter?

  20. flasaint says: Apr 26, 2011 1:10 PM

Well , if he’s telling the truth then he will get
one million dollars…….what does he get if he’s lying………a slap on the ass ????????????

  22. coachstram says: Apr 26, 2011 1:25 PM

This is offensive – cant they find something better to do with 1mil?

You really think he will need the cash?

Giving a soon-to-be millionaire another million is a joke.

Whats is gonna prove? I doubt seriously Cam is innocent here, but guess what – who cares, he’s no longer a part of the NCAA, and he would be only one of thousands that break NCAA recruiting rules on a daily basis.

  32. jrd8523 says: Apr 26, 2011 2:26 PM

There is a reason why you have to jump through hoops to even have a chance to use a polygraph in court. Getting a passing grade on a polygraph doesnt mean you are telling the truth.

  33. 11inthebox says: Apr 26, 2011 2:46 PM

And while youre at it, Cam, show us your birth certificate too!

  34. 1buckeye76 says: Apr 26, 2011 3:13 PM

The Auburn boosters gave Cam $2 million to not take the polygraph. i hesitated to post this due to the debacle which is currently the osu program, but… my hypocrisy knows no bounds.

    Wow!
Thank you. I don’t think I could have summed it all up like that. Suddenly it’s all crystal.
Did that even make sense in your mind?
Really, I’m serious. I don’t even have a guess as to what that meant.

  37. reticarga says: Apr 26, 2011 3:24 PM

Pass the test and give the money to charity and he’ll make a lot more down the road.

  38. snookau says: Apr 26, 2011 3:30 PM

He’s about to make 50 times that as the number 1 pick.

  39. snookau says: Apr 26, 2011 3:31 PM

Any bets on which school these people went to?

My guess is Georgia or Alabama. Most likely Georgia.

  43. bringsanityback says: Apr 26, 2011 3:56 PM

As much as I think not many of us would turn our back on a million dollars, I don’t think any good comes out of Cam Newton taking the test. First, if he fails it then it proves that he lied and that will certainly hurt his draft stock not to mention NCAA ramifications. Second, if he passes it and collects the money, all he has proven is that he gives in to pressure from the media which is not an ideal quality for a successful quarterback in the NFL.

  44. dcbronco says: Apr 26, 2011 4:02 PM

It time for a former college player to have the guts to just say that too many of the NCAAs rule suck. The NCAA itself sucks. It a bunch of leeches sucking the blood of athletes that they are supposedly educating, they’re not. Supposedly giving life lessons they’re not. Supposedly providing an opportunity for, too often they’re not. Most college athletes won’t become pros. Most college grads won’t find a job in their field. People need to realize college once had a purpose. Education. Now they are just large corporations taking advantage of a population. “Hey, Buddy. Give me a little coin and I’ll show you how to become rich”. They claim people with a college degree make 1 million more on average than people that don’t have one. They don’t tell you that’s according to the Census Bureau. Considering there are millions with degrees and the vast majority of the wealth is owned by a small percentage of people, that is a very skewed statistic. They can make numbers say anything. Add the fact that a lot of the people who have degrees aren’t doing anything their degree was for. Especially successful people.

College needs to be for things that actually need further schooling. Like for Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers…. We need to stop this nonsense of pretending every job requires a degrees. Most jobs can be learned as an apprentice.

I hope Cam took money. All of the athletes should. The schools sure as hell do.
